Flights from Kuala Lumpur to LOS info

Recommended Posts

I’m going to be in KL in January with work, not the most exciting place so looking for a flight up to Bangkok or even Pattaya for a 2 or 3 day stay.

Any recommendations of Budget Airlines who fly either route?

Air Asia fly between KL and Bangkok - though they use a different terminal building from the major airlines. There is a bus service to and from the bus station (below the train KL Sentraal railway station). A one way ticket is something like 8 1/2 ringitts.

Yes, Air Asia is the way to go. They have some of the hottest stewardesses too.

Choose the Mayalsian run flights (AK xxxx) rather than the Thai run flights (FD xxxx) as the aircraft is better and at BKK you don't need to take a bus between the terminal and the plane.

The luggage allowance is only 15kg. It's easy to go over that and they'll charge you if you go too far over.

As mentioned above Air Asia uses the LCCT building at KLIA. The bus to KL Sentral is either 9 Ringit (Red Bus associated with Air Asia) or 8 Ringit (Yellow bus a competitor). The bus ride is 1 hour 15 minutes.

Alternatively you can take the Green Bus to the main terminal (1.5 Ringit) and then the KLIA Express train to KL Sentral (35 Ringit) which takes 28 minutes and is much more comfortable than the bus.

I've been doing the work in Malaysia, fun in Thailand, thing for a half year now.

Thanks for that jtiger. I'll check out that option when I'm in KL next month. How often does the green bus run? I would hate to sit in it for half an hour or more till it filled up.

it runs every 20 minutes.

at the main terminal you catch it at the "bus station" with all the other buses. There's one door marked specially for this bus.

At the Air Asia terminal (LCCT) it parks between the Red and Yellow buses.

When I arrived in KL a few weeks ago via Air Asia it was late at night and I decided to do the simple thing and take the Red bus. I was one of the first on it and they sat and waited until that bus was full before taking off. Needless to say this took a long time. I should have taken the KLIA Express.....

Be advised that there is a non-express train (called something like KLIA Transit).. it's probably cheaper but not as fast to KL Sentral.

Assuming my flight's on time, I should get into KL at about 6.20 pm With a bit of luck, I'll be able to check into my hotel by 8.15 or maybe a bit later. Time for a quick shower and then out for something to eat.

I know the area so won't have to waste time looking for a restaurant.

I'm aware of the slower train. Certainly at KL Sentral, there's a dedicated platform for the express train - at least as far as I can remember.

My return flight leaves at 1.40 in the afternoon so no major hassles getting to the airport on time for it.
