  1. HDR can be used in a variety of ways. The OP has demonstrated the use of HDR to create interesting but surreal shots and Patna has shown how HDR can enhance realistic shots. It's worth knowing how to do both kinds of photos. No one is right or wrong. Just create what you like and share them with others.
  2. I found the cheese steak sandwich to be too dry as others have noted. I asked the waitress to bring me the marinara sauce (used for dipping the cheese sticks I believe) and I added that to the sandwich and it was much better. I suggested that this be a menu option for that sandwich.
  3. For Sale: iPhone 4, 32GB, black, jailbroken and software sim unlocked. with original accessories: charger (US Plug) and earphones asking: 15,000 baht it is running iOS 4.3.3 with baseband 01.59.00 technical note: the phone was sim locked to the carrier AT&T. The sim unlock is via Ultrasn0w program from the iPhone Dev Team. I've maintained the ability to unlock the sim through iOS updates using programs from the Dev Team and others which allow the operating system to be upgraded without upgrading the baseband (once you upgrade the baseband Ultrasn0w will not work). In
  4. There is all together too much managing going on by maangers who are trying to squeeze the last baht out of the patrons. Now it's common to have multiple classes of dancers from normal grunts up to showgirls, each with their own barfines. Then you have special barfines on special days and restrictions on who and when girls can leave and how long they can be away. And finally the rules changed based on the number of customers in the bar. It's just gotten to be too much. People want to go into a place and if they see someone they want to be able to take her away without feeling they wer
  5. I stopped by the PBG a number of times in May and I have to say that it's a great place to hang out. My friend and I used it as a place to meet up and have a snack and a drink before heading down to the mayhem of Walking Street. Even though it is outside it was cool enough for me with the breezes off the water (and I don't like heat). The food is good, the drinks cold and the prices are very reasonable. It might have the cleanest bathrooms of any business in Pattaya (although watch that step in the men's room). No one will hassle you while you're there and it took me a whi
  6. Eva Air's "high season" prices are from May 14 to July 31. The prices seem to be up 50% during that time. That's why I'm flying to BKK on May 12th...
  7. I'm against cell phones on planes as well. I'm not too concerned however.. It will be implemented (we can't stop that) but it will be very expensive per-minute so that will keep the conversations brief.
  8. Is a vacation defined as doing something other than work?
  9. to be safe assume every internet cafe machine you use is infested with keylogger programs that will send everything you type (such as account names and passwords) to the bad guys who will use that information for nefarious purposes.
  10. Arsehole sounds too refined. Asshole is more appropriate. Do you really need there to be a law to prevent you from showing bad manners? There are many ways I could bother you (if I were seated near you) that are perfectly legal. Would I do so? No, of course not. I don't need a law to tell me to respect other people, including strangers. I guess that I was just raised better then you.
  11. I'm up in Issan and driving a car in Thailand for the first time. I was stopped by a cop after making a left turn at a red light. He berated my girlfriend (in Thai) for letting me drive so badly. Then he asked me in English for my license and I didn't have it in my pocket but offered to get it out of the trunk of the car. He said it wasn't necessary and asked me where I was from and I said "America" and he then told me not to do that again and shook my hand and said I could go. I'm still not sure what I did wrong but I think that the left turn on red got his attention.
  12. Here's a quick summary of what we've learned in person and on this and other forums: Some bars are trying out the smoking ban (either by choice or by suggestion of the cops). However in both bars that openly permit smoking and those that have no ashtrays or smokers visible you have a choice: you can hold off smoking (imagine you're on the plane to the LOS), you can walk outside and smoke, or you can be a selfish asshole and ask for an ashtray and smoke anyway, showing your total disregard for the others in the bar. So for the good guys things have changed, for the asshole
  13. I've done two wires with Wamu and will do another in a few days and have been very happy with the service. Last time though it was kind of funny. Banks are always reinventing their plans and I got caught up in that. I've had a Wamu account for a few years and went I went to send a wire the lady told me that there would be a $20 fee. I said that I thought that wire transfers were free. She said they were if you had wamu free checking. I told her that I had free checking. She said that I didn't have wamu free checking. I said that I've had the account for a few years and I've never
  14. I've got my money in Bank of America but their wire transfer fees are excessive. I opened a Washington Mutual free checking account. No minimum balance, no fees and I can do wire transfers to my Siam Commercial Bank account in Thailand for free as well. Given that it takes the teller about 15 minutes to type in all the information to do a wire transfer it's not surprising that there's usually a fee for this service I wish there was some way to move money from the BofA account to the WAMU account easily. Maybe one day...
  15. it runs every 20 minutes. at the main terminal you catch it at the "bus station" with all the other buses. There's one door marked specially for this bus. At the Air Asia terminal (LCCT) it parks between the Red and Yellow buses. When I arrived in KL a few weeks ago via Air Asia it was late at night and I decided to do the simple thing and take the Red bus. I was one of the first on it and they sat and waited until that bus was full before taking off. Needless to say this took a long time. I should have taken the KLIA Express..... Be advised that there is a non-express tr
