I'm absolutely convinced that you CAN buy a KVM switch in Thailand

No problem in Bangkok. Pantip, Fortune City and the open-air market across from the Royal (Rattanakosin) Hotel down by the Grand Palace all would have them for sure. Example:

I think you'll find those prices are baht, by the way. Their doofus software probably makes them use US$.

3rd floor in Tukcom, there's a shop with various cables in boxes on the floor. To the right, they have shelving with several KVM units available.

As an alternative, why not just use VNC (Virtual Network Computing),and run a remote desktop?

Why? This is an inefficient use of computers.

What advantage does 2 PCs running 1 monitor hold?

Better to get another monitor and run them from one keyboard/mouse. If you start to use 2 monitors you'll never go back.

I use the software Multiplicity to run 3 monitors and 2 PCs and it workd great.

Is Tukcom that huge mall/store on South Pattaya about 1 block east of 2'nd with all electronics? If so, I think you can get anything there. A really Kool place.

And RedRack, there are many reasons for wanting to do this, so I am not even going to question the poster. The most common is that you have limited monitor space. Probably 1/2 the people in my old office had a KVM because we all had mutliple computers and only room for 2-3 monitors.

Yes, TukCom is the big building about 100 yards down on the right hand side of Pattaya Tai (South Pattaya Road) as you head from the traffic light intersection with 2nd Road. (More or less opposite the intersection of Pattaya Tai and Soi Buakhouw)

Personally, I'd still look to go 'cheap' and simply use a crossover Ethernet cable to hook the two machines up and then run a VNC server on the 'headless' machine.

Why not just buy a cheap video card with 2 monitor outs and then run 2 monitors from the one machine, this is what I do and then you won't have the problems of data on 1 machine that's not on the other. £25 should be all you need to spend, far more effiecient, far easier and above all so easy to run rather than having to switch a switch everytime (ie with 2 monitors from same machine you just move the mouse from 1 to the other).

Personally I have 1 machine running 3 monitors and it runs great.

If you run it like that then you should also buy the superb Ultramon software.

When I said limited monitor space I meant limited physical space tp place your monitors (not lack of pixel space on you monitor). At work I usually have 2-3 montors with a boat load of boxes. It's just not always possible to just put another monitor on my desk.

Skytop - In the vase majority of case I agree with you. But I do sometime work on various sundry equipment that this will not work. I am certain that in some situations a KVS is helpfull for me. That's why I don't question the OP (though I do like your suggestion to him).
