Haya All,

Well... I am finally taking the plunge. I have a one way ticket for June 10, and will be staying in Thailand for several months at least, and several years I hope :)

Now... I am going to need a house. I dont want an apartment if I can get away from it... I have to have at least 2 bedrooms (tho I dont think I would need a 3rd for anything) and something that is western friendly (think: toilet, not hole in ground), and something clean... or reasonably so.

I will buy my own appliances and such, as I am particular about what I sleep on, so I guess I would go with a unfurnished place (unless the furnishings are very nice, or I can switch some of them out.. like the bed).

I am looking for something that has a flexible lease, or none at all, though if I like it I will likely be there several years (even if I dont stay in thailand, I will likely keep the house so I dont have to pack luggage back and forth anymore).

And it has to have a place to secure a motorbike without a lot of fuss (most houses have a lockable gate).

Thanks in advance,

Frosty (Dave)

Dave, what is your price range and geographic preference?

I guess I should have mentioned that, shouldnt I have?

Write it off to old age... or something.

I am looking for something in the greater pattaya areaI've already purchased a motorbike, so baht busses are not a issue, but the closer to town the better, at least for now.

My price range is... complicated lol. I verge on being a LDOP when I am in LOS, but I have to try to restrict that now, since I Will be living there. I can pay 20k a month easily enough if I fall in love with a particular place, but I would like to find a small 2br place for half that if I can. I did look at one place that was going for 8k that I actually liked, but it was rented already... something similar would be perfect. Realistically I am thinking around 13-15k or so, for a nice secure (albeut small) place.

While I am looking I will be in the Resident Garden, so I will want to try to find something fairly quickly on arrival - since that place will set a fella back 35k a month on the low end lol.

Any help appreciated!

Either way, will see ya there soon! Will have to throw another party. That last one got WILD. Am gonna judge the next one tho. :)

If you dont find anything before you get there, look at the notice board on the ground floor of carrefour or outside the Friendship supermarket. Lots of houses for rent around pattaya. I am 10 mins walk from carrefour and pay $12000 a month for a nice, furnished house; quite a few near me for 10K-15k.

Lots of houses and townhouses for rent that never get advertised except for a sign on the property. Get a map and drive around with a Thai speaker in areas where you'd think you'd like to live. Call the number and go from there. You'll likely hear some silly prices once they realize a farang is involved but eventually you'll find something.

It's a good time of year to be looking as you can check for flooded sois. Also once you've narrowed it down to a very few choices have a look late at night. Nearness to shopping - Big C, Tesco, Car4 etc. is a big plus - as is access to the baht bus line, even if you have a motocy.
