BA increase fuel surcharge to £156

Recommended Posts

Another increase thats 2 in the last month.

Up another £30 for a return to Thailand.

I hate to disappoint you but it's 156 quid for flights of less than 9 hours. Over 9 hours, i.e. Thailand, and it goes up 60 quid for a return to over 200 quid. :clap2

"BA to increase fuel surcharges

British Airways is to increase its fuel surcharge on all tickets from next week.

From June 3, the surcharge for short-haul flights will increase by £3 per flight (£6 return) from £13 per flight (£26 return) to £16 per flight (£32 return).

The surcharge for long-haul flights of less than nine hours will increase by £15 per flight from £63 per flight (£126 return) to £78 per flight (£156 return)

The surcharge for long-haul flights of more than nine hours will increase by £30 per flight from £79 per flight (£158 return) to £109 per flight "(£218).

No question that fuel charges are going up and necessitating fuel surcharges; But BA are just a bunch of lying thieves when it comes to the amount that they charge. They were fined just recently for using this surcharge to rip off customers last year, and then had the bloody nerve to announce massive (unexpected <huh ) profits for the year. Looks to me that they are using the latest hoik (which in fact should be about £3/passenger on a long haul flight one way) to pay the record fine they got clobbered with earlier. Unfortunately the "blinkered" gobby type of greenies, and supporters of smoking bans, back this type of larceny. :angry2 <huh :angry2 :cussing :angry2

I just flew round trip on KLM on tickets I purchased 7 months ago for the outward leg, and 4 months on the return. (I live in Thailand but purchased tickets ex-UK)

No surcharges.

Are these surcharges applied by BA when you purchase the ticket, or is it the heinous practice of hitting you at check-in when you can do nothing but get your wallet out?

They cannot apply fuel surcharges afte4r the ticket has been paid for. However, in theory at least, they can apply any government tax increases.

That's nice to hear, does that only apply to UK based airlines or is it a general rule? (have booked with Eva)

Assuming you booked in the UK, it's a general rule. The origin of the carrier is irrelevant.
