Well, I've managed to get my flight changed from Bangkok to Phuket on Cathay Pacific. Arriving on the 9th, (God Willing!!!) I had planned on staying at the Marriott Resort in Pattaya. I've never been to Phuket before. I'm looking for an upper-end hotel, similar to the Marriott, near the action, guest freindly, big pool, a gym would be nice. Any ideas????

I think you'll find that most of the so called "upper end" hotels in Phuket are not guest friendly. For example, you may be charged a 1000 baht joiner fee.

Your best bet is to do a search for hotels and then email the ones you're interested in about their policy towards any guests you may have.

The obvious one would be the hilton in Patong although i dont know their joiner fee.

When you get a taxi/minibus to the resort , all the drivers act as touts for hotels etc. (some even stop at small travel shops beforehand)

Work out your budget and then let them know what you want. We all know they get some commission but it will probably come off the hotels end and not yours.

Am in Patong at the moment. If mongering is your ambition here, I would NOT stay at a top end hotel. They are family orienated and dont want bar girls trotting through reception.

Try either the summer breeze hotel or the orchid residence. Both guest friendly and nice rooms. No swimming pools though. A good beach is a 5 minute walk away.

Patong Beach hotel or holiday inn are better options than Marriot.

I think the Absolute Sea Pearl has a 1000 baht joiner fee. I'm not sure about the other one. You could email them and ask.

Have you checked out the Tropica Bungalows? They used to have no joiner fee if you booked a double.

Generally, the more upmarket a hotel/resort is in Phuket, the more likely to charge a high joiner fee.

Was chatting with an English guy last night who is staying at the Royal Paradise Hotel. They want a joiner fee of 1,000 bt per night. He cant move hotels because he paid upfront before he got here. Big mistake.

I suggested he pay somene off for a few thousand baht to turn a blind eye.. up to him.

friendlyric6411, I dont know where you got your 180bt a bottle idea from ...last night could get bottles of Heiney and san mig light at many bars off Bangla for 80bt a bottle. Some had draught for 60bt.

The discos were around 120bt and some places wanted 150bt for a lady drink. Those ladies remained thirsty!

With little effort I secured the company of a 21 y/o babe last night for 1,000bt ST. She started at 2,000 then quickly dropped to 1500, then finally 1,000 when i said I wasnt really fussed.

Its a buyers market here at the moment. Many girls have come here expecting a high season that just isnt going to happen and will drop prices to be competitive. The tourist numbers are less than the middle of low season!

If you wanted to visit Pookey, now is a good time.
