Emirates launch A380 to BKK

BANGKOK: -- Closely following the successful deployment of Emirates' A380 to Sydney and Auckland, the Dubai-based airline today announced it will introduce the revolutionary product to Bangkok, effective on June 1.

 

The initiative is perfectly timed to support the Thailand government's efforts to revive the tourism industry after last year's closure of Bangkok's international airport.

 

Richard Vaughan, Emirates' Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations, East Asia and Australasia noted "Thailand is pulling out all the stops to revitalise inbound tourism. Its travel and tourism industry fully intends to get back to business with excellent deals, publicity campaigns, and marketing support to trade partners. Emirates will join forces with the government to put the country back on the list of leading Asian destinations for international tourism.

 

"The introduction of the A380 on the Dubai-Bangkok-Dubai route will boost available capacity by 30 % and contribute to increasing tourist arrivals from Dubai and the larger Middle East - already an attractive inbound market for Thailand with steady year-on-year growth."

 

The new Emirates service represents the aviation world's first A380 operation to Bangkok and promises to usher in a whole new, luxury air travel experience to/from the Kingdom.

 

The existing EK 372/373 daily service will be operated by Emirates' A380. EK 372 departs Dubai at 09:40 hours, arriving in Bangkok at 19:00 hours. It turns around as EK 373 departing Bangkok at 21:25 hours and arriving in Dubai at 00:30 hours the following morning.

 

Thailand's latest announcement to withdraw fees for tourist visa applications up to June 4 2009 will be welcomed by Middle East and other international visitors, he said.

Emirates A380's ground-breaking in-flight product includes onboard shower spas in the First Class cabin featuring signature products by the airline's premium spa brand, Timeless Spa. The onboard lounge for First and Business class customers mirrors the ambience of an executive club and includes a bar with a wide range of beverages and canap้s.

 

The flat-bed massage-equipped private suites in First Class.

The A380 from London arrives in Dubai around midnight, EK 372 leaves at 09.40 Hrs, hardly seamless IMHO.

 

Great news for the queue's at immigration.

Yes, this A380 does not really connect with the London A380 flight, but does fit very well with the evening flights from both Heathrow and Gatwick - maybe we will find later on that the evening Heathrow flight will be A380 as well.

 

Anyway just booked this for October - Evening flight out of Gatwick to connect with the A380 to LOS. I am dying to find out if business class on the A380 is as good as I have been told, probably wont be but I live in hope.

The number of manned desks at Immigration and the speed at which they process passengers pretty much nullifies that scenario.

Being at Bangkok would be a big plus! I have found it to be quite efficient when not occupied by red shirts.

Now London Heathrow, pack a collapsable chair and a good book!

True but I find even when as always, sitting in the back row of economy that if you walk smartly after leaving the aircraft you can overtake most of the other peasants before getting to immigration.

Hi Lads

I have recently flown on the 380 with emirates in cattle class. LHR to Dubai then onto hkg on smaller and return. It is an excellent aircraft with great legroom and most helpful staff. I thoroughly enjoyed the 380 definately worth the wait. Never had the problems with the baggage though as I was just connecting. Got talking to one of the crew a very nice young lady who told me that they all have to be specially trained for the 380 and once trained stick to it.
