I put this in the Funnies Section because it was so strange.

It seems that this man, Chen, who is heavily in debt, is standing on a bridge in China threatening to jump off.

Along comes this man named Lai who comes up to Chen, shakes his hand and pushes him off.

Apparantly Lai saluted Chen on the way down. Nice gesture! ;)

I leave the rest of the story for you all to read.

People who decide to jump, but don't do it, draw a crowd, stop traffic, are really looking for attention...but at what cost to the rest of the population?

In this case, his lingering on a crowded bridge in a very populous town had traffic stopped (and waiting, presumably) for 5 hours before the guy was given a nudge.

If there were 10,000 people sitting in cars and simply waiting for the guy to jump, that's nearly 6 years in aggregate of peoples' lives wasted while this putz makes up his mind. Who knows how many people were made late for critical appointments, ambulances rerouted, and all the other things that happen when a bridge is closed?

I think the best approach would have been to just leave him there, let traffic continue and put a cushion under his projected fall spot.

I agree but wouldn't waste a cushion.
