I am considering a suite at the Residence Garden for later in the year. The facility seems an excellent value. However, I am used to staying on one of the active soi's - where I am within easy walking distance of bars, massage, shopping. I enjoy walking and for example when staying at the Queen Vic, would walk almost to walking street every morning for great coffee and breakfast at Tops. When alone, walking is my preferred mode of transportation.

Residence Garden is on a very busy soi, and during my last visit the roads were under major construction, making access and egress quite difficult. I understand the construction has been completed. However can any of my fellow board members give me an honest opinion as to ease of crossing the heavy traffic roads in front in order to get to walking street?

thanks, gentlemen!

Billy

Stayed there a week or so ago and found the hotel and it's service good.

If you need internet from the hotel but FORGET IT.

It worked initially and then stopped altogether. After being told that it was my fault numerous time they finally fessed up that they had been having some problems with one (or more) of their repeaters over a period of at least 3 months. They made many promises to do something but nothing ever happened.

Their final suggestion was that I come down to the lobby to use the internet every time I needed it. Needless to say I wont be staying there again.

If you dont require internet, the place is great and the buffet dinner is top notch. I'd go back again for the buffet but not to stay.

Billy, I got your PM but thought Id reply here so others may benefit (or mock me)

You noted that your main interest was in access to other areas .....

Actually I suffered an injury while over there so walking was not an option.

If you're reasonably fit getting to Walking St would be no worries. Id estimate about 15 mins walk (maybe less) to Walking St. I suggested it to the TGF but she wouldn't hear of it, said "too far". I think she thought I wouldnt make it due to the illness.

Our alternative was a Baht Bus to around Soi 15 / 2nd road (B10) and we never had to wait any more than 2 minutes at any time of the day. For longer trips (eg I needed to go to Bangkok Pattaya Hospital daily) fares were between B150 and B250 depending on the mood of the taxi driver. B200 was the most common and the average. Again the wait was never more than 5 mins for this and we only had one refusal. On 2 different occasions they threw their passengers out and took us! (I did feel bad abou that)

Crossing the road was a snack (but remember I'm from Oz and we drive on the same side of the road). Crossing any road in Thailand is fraught with danger :-) In that situation you suffer a double whammy: you're a foreigner and have no right to be there and you're on the road and (drivers will consider that) you have no right to be there.

As for busy I wouldn't consider the traffic busy at all and I heard no construction noises during my stay. There was some construction about 2-300m up the road but I never even thought about it until writing this. You're far eough back from the road in the rooms to not worry about noise.

I'll post some pics if I can figure out why it wont let me

Nothing wrong with the good old residence gardens I've just booked a month for the third time.

We like it as its close enough to walk to the action and close enough to walk home if you so desire and are not too pissed, because of the distance from town its relatively quiet. Internet what who needs that when on holiday just sometthing extra to lug over and back. Reasonable rates guest friendly nice staff and management.

I'd recomment the place, hey I've never stayed anywhere else either but if its not broke why fix it

I totally agree. I always go to the travel office place next door if I wish to use the Internet. They are very reasonable with their charges. Never had a problem getting back by baht bus late pm, early am, either.
