Displayed prices are for multiple nights. Check the site for price per night. I see hostels starting at 200b/day and hotels from 500b/day on agoda.

I've only got a work phone, and I'm leaving it behind for my trip in August. Was thinking about buying something like a cheap pre-paid nokia or something so I could use it over there, and then keep for future use. I"m sure I read a posting where somebody got one from Big C or somewhere similar..

Any ideas on ballpark prices? I'm not looking for the latest and greatest, just something cheap and functional..

Go to tukcom.com (ask any bar girl to take you) and you'll find an enormous range.

Let her do the negotiation and look after her with a tip and you'll get great price.

You buy a prepaid SIM card for a few hundred baht or less (including some credit).

You buy a cheap mobile to go with it for between 1000-2000 baht, for a new one.

You can even buy second hand ones for less at Tuk-Com.

Phones in Thailand are not normally locked to a Network so put the two together and off you go.

You can also go to Big C on 2nd Road. Not only does Big C sell you mobile phones (they might have a promotion running), there are also a number of shops selling new and second hand mobile phones on the 1st (2nd if you're American) floor.

If you are only looking for a phone to make calls and send SMS (this seems stupid to mention, but nowadays a mobile phone can do so much more), then a simple Nokia would do. And as far as I know all phones do at least have menu in English

Like others have said, Tukom is a good place. I picked up a cheap Nokia for a simple 900 baht, threw a SIM card into it, and off I went. Not exactly as fancy as a Blackberry Storm or anything, but it does the job. :-)

Also, if you buy a phone in thailand it will still work in your home country. I have used the one I bought 3 years ago in philippines as well, just change the sim card.
