I have a good friend coming to Bangkok for a Medical Holiday -- he will be having a few procedures performed at Bumrungrad. He asked me to ask the board to let him know the better hotel choice from the following list of hotels he was provided:

1. City lodge - Sukhumvit 9, Bangkok

Soi 9 Sukhumuit Road, Wattana Bankgkok 10110

2. Adelphi Suites

6 Sukhumvit Soi 8 Bangkok 10110

3. Omni Tower Bangkok

69 Sukhumuit Soi 4 Bangkok 10110

4. Royal Ivory Bangkok

73 Sukumuit Soi 4 Bangkok 10110

5. Royal Benja Hotel

39 Sukhumvit Soi 5

any insight into these hotels --- Thank you soo much.

Adelphi Suites is head and shoulders above all the others. Highly recommended and just a short stroll from NEP via Lolita’s :D

The Royal Ivory used to be nice but has let itself go recently and is quite a way down soi 4 if you want to be in the thick of things.

Even better value is the Aspen Suites on Soi 2 http://www.aspenbangkok.com/ Farther down the Soi than the Adelphi but a better location and better price. Bumrungrad is just over the road.

It is the same as the Adelphi on Soi 8 and as new. The rest in that list are not in the same league.

Good call on the Aspen, sister premises to the Adelphi and just past the Majestic Grand

Also should this be in the Hotel section?

Majestic Grande was value when it opened but not for some time now.

Breakfast at the Aspen is far from shabby as well. If you are ever there for a month, the Aspen often has some cracking deals on, including electric, though not breakfast I think. I've seen them have a month for mid 30ks.

Don't know what procedure he is having but Bumrungrad suites go for about $100/night.

Just curious, has anyone experienced a bath in bed? Details please.

Royal Benja is over priced and...if he's not too sick to play...there is a joiner fee.

I'm gonna throw my two cents in and suggest the Grand Business Inn, Soi 11, just off the corner of Sukhumvit.

Was very good value just after opening when I stayed there but lack of in room safe has always marked it down for me.

True about the lack of safe. However, the safe deposit boxes are available 24 hrs and there is a bank across the Soi, so for me it wasn't a big deal.

I think they opened at 1100 baht/night and I paid 1200 in few months ago, plus they upgrade me to a larger room most of the time. I stay there once or twice a year and make my reservations by email. I have no idea what the rack rate is.... OK, I just checked and it's 1600... eek, probably not the best deal in Bangkok for a room. Still not bad as it's very clean, fairly new and the staff is wonderful.

What is it with hotel and guest house owner muppets and the lack of large safes, well secured to the wall and preferably placed on a surface (where is that place with them just hanging out of the wall like soap dishes ?).

The cost of a room build and fit out is in the hundreds of thousands and they won't put out a few thousand for a safe ? Then again, most don't put out for much better than MFI type furniture.
