I think that is the train £15 each way.

Hell of a trip though. 3+ hours on the train then another 1 or 2 hour fuck around to either Paddington for the Heathrow Express or the bus / tube to Heathrow.

I'd be flying out of NCL.

And so would he if I could book a ticket for UNDER £600 and a good lay-over for those dates (fixed)

But as Emirates at £673 with a NINE hour layover he will be very happy with a 3 hour train trip (which he can take his own food drink) rather than pay the price at UAE.

The Heathrow express takes 16 mins

The Thiefrow Express virtually never takes the quoted 15 minutes. I've used it maybe 50+ times. Plus, it doesn't go from Kings Cross either. You have to get your arse from Kings Cross to Paddington and when you get off the train, there are no baggage trolleys sitting around, no, they are 500m down the platform and they want £1 or £2 to get them moving. So how do you get to Paddington ? Taxi ? ok, but expensive. Want the tube ? sorry, no lifts so please lug your bags down the escalator and then down and around corners to get to the Piccadilly line. At LHR, drag bags along miles or corridors to your chosen check in desk. Don't forget to repeat in reverse upon return.

NCL options are obviously any Euro jump plus a long haul from a Euro hub or a plane to London.

BA £664.40 NCL-LHR-BKK around 2 hours each way in LHR. As that is from touchdown times, not you getting off the plane, it is really just off one, onto the next.

I see the saving but add in transport on the Express, plus tube or taxi plus food and drink on the train and food and drink and other expenses when in the hotel and the overall saving of around £140 will be nowhere near that figure. It could be the same.

I've made the mistake of "false economies" before and regretted it. Hope the hassle for your brother is worth the final net saving.

I know where you are coming from but he will not go direct as he needs his 40 fag stop mid way???

On his dates BA comes in at £700 at that price he would be better off with Emirates

he may/may not use the Heathrow express or the tube but as a sailer for nearly 40 years lugging a bag onto the tube won't be a problem :D

Don't bother with Heathrow Express, by the time you've fucked about at KX & PADD you may as well just take the tube direct for £4.50.

Still think the flight he has is a bit pricey though, i'm sure EVA were doing somehting around the £470 mark for that time.

May not have suited his timings though.

Hi Belfunk,

Eva were coming in at £504, which if it was me I would have taken I have had to go with Thai :beer

But as I have already stated my Brother likes a large dose of nicotine so he needs to get off half way :beer silly I know but what can I do :ahhgg:

I know what he means about fags, i used an inhalator on my flights, but need not have bothered as the sleeping pills did the trick.

i am now on day 3 of giving up smoking, all going well, but haven't really been out of the house !

I understand Moby, maybe because I have done it all so many times before and my disposition is to think laterally and out of the box, that I easily built in all the issues which can get overlooked, such as no lifts with bags etc. I know it came home to hit me after my daughter was born as the buggy made single person travel difficult and you had to think more about the ease of movement.

Add in fag breaks and I fully understand !

I well understand the idea of humping bags about as I travel with my golf clubs (full set) so it's a pig to move around :angel

But I also have to keep an eye on the cash flow (for me) and as much as I like flying from Newcastle (I live 20 min from the airport) I have to be sensible about the silly prices.

I used to fly China Air when they were giving out the old Business class for an extra £250 with 30kg luggage, but now it's around £1100 and you are back to 20kg sod that.

My wife is Japanese and goes back to Tokyo twice a year, flying with KLM/Air France which is a longer flight (12 1/2 hrs from Amsterdam) gets a 30kg bag allowance and I haven' paid more than £500 for the last two years. She is out the same time as me this year (last two weeks in Feb) flying from Newcastle Good flights for £446 for me, from Newcastle with good flights £673 :beer :D

So this year, first time for many years I am going via Heathrow and on Thai (probably the same plane I went on in 1991) but this will allow me to spend a night with friends a have not seen for 5 years (they live next to Heathrow) and pay for my train fares (UK) and my hotel (LOS).

The end result, until I can once again get good prices from Newcastle I fear I will stuck in Heathrow (albeit in a Lounge)

Regards

Be Nice
