Yes, a sad loss. He was the voice of rugby for me in my early years right up to his retirement in 2002. A world rugby institution.

Glyn.

I was saddened to hear about this earlier today.

He was the voice of British rugby on the BBC for so long & I was always amazed at his unbiased commentary,

as he was obviously passionate about rugby in general & Scottish rugby in particular.

A sad loss to rugby & an aspirational figure for others to measure themselves by.

Very sad news.

I grew up watching rugby and listening to "the voice" made you feel as if you were at the game. RIP a true legend.

With Bill, it was as if he was standing in the crowd, watching and enjoying the game with all the supporters. You could walk away from the T.V to make a cuppa and his commentary was even more enjoyable just to listen to.

R.I.P old son.
