Thierry Henry Comes to the Big Apple

Why US broadcasters even bought broadcast rights to the World Cup is a mystery to me. The Mexicans can watch on Univision all the soccer they want. Their was no need to tarnish US English language tv with a children's sport. I think soccer's biggest selling point is anybody can play. It is cheap to find an open field, make two goals and kick the ball around. Real football requires $1000 USD or more worth of equipment and extensive physical training. Anybody sober or not so sober can play soccer. As long as they can run they can play.

Ha ha............ Real football...........!!!!

Rugby is way better and more physical than that pansy game called American Football........ American Footballers wear way too much protection and have to have a breather after every single play!!! :rotflmao

ASN is on True Silver, so you wouldn't be paying for all those other TrueVision sports channels at all.

Funny, I see True Sport 2 and True Sport 6 on that list, so I believe I'd be getting them AND paying for them. Let's look at what's on TrueSport 2 tonight:

14:00 - World Boxing News

14:30 - WWE Experience

16:00 - WWE Smackdown

17:30 - Planet X

18:00 - Aerobics Oz Style

18:24 - Aerobics Oz Style

19:00 - Breaking Weapons Free Style

20:00 - WWE Bottom Line

21:00 - World Class Boxing

22:30 - Planet X

23:00 - Breaking Weapons Free Style

:wanker

Ok, at least there's no soccer. A little boxing, which is ok but a ways down on my fav sport list. Then we have fake wrestling, aerobics, and breaking weapons (whatever that is). You expect me to pay for this? :clueless

BUT WAIT, let's look at TrueSport 6:

10:30 - Caglari vs Juventus

13:30 - FIFA Futbol Mundial

15:30 - Everton vs Chelsea

21:30 - LA Liga

22:30 - Hertha Berlin vs Leverkusen

12:00 - Genoa vs Sampdoria

14:00 - Heracles Almelo vs PSV Eindhoven

20:30 - WRC Shake Down Finland

17:00 - Man U vs Portsmouth

I have no idea what most of that is. Berlin is a city in Germany, Genoa is a city in Italy and Finland is a country up by Russia, but the rest? :clueless That doesn't bode well for my sporting interests.

Unfortunately I do recognize these words - "Futbol", "Everton", "Chelsea", "Man U", "Portsmouth" Sounds like the "Polka-Dot-Ball-Sport" to me. :hairout

So, CT, when you say:

"you wouldn't be paying for all those other TrueVision sports channels at all."

. . . you are lying. I WOULD be paying for these 2 TrueVision sports channels, and as you can see above, they broadcast crap.

I will not pay to have more soccer and other crap sports beamed into my apartment. I get enough of that for free on my crappy Rayong cable.

Since you wouldn't be paying for Truesport 1, 3, 4, 5, ESPN, Star, Truesport Extra 1 or any of the sport HD channels you wouldn't be paying for all those TrueVisions Sports Channels at all, would you. You shouldn't exaggerate to try and disguise what amounts to nothing more than thinly disguised xenophobic rants.

But you don't, do you. Your big moan is that you don't get basketball, baseball and NFL on your crappy Rayong cable. :P

I actually like rugby. The problem is it would not televise well. And that seems to be mandatory for US sports. American football players did wear less padding in the past. But the lineman are getting bigger and bigger. Not enough pads one hit could send a player to the hospital or morgue.

We are starting to find a common denominator. I like American football as well and have not missed watching a super bowl for as long as I can remember. It is broadcast in Australia as well. Last January I had to get up early to watch the contest in an English-run bar in my condo complex. The place was packed and there were not only Americans watching. It was great to watch the Saints win. It must have given the people of New Orleans a lot of heart, after what they had to put up with after Katrina. I have to stop writing now, as my eyes are getting moist. I don't want my Tilac to see me with tears in my eyes. :gulp

I would be paying for all the other TrueVision sports channels that came with the same package as ASN. Obviously I wouldn't be paying for channels that don't come with the package. Did anybody but hair-splitter Tom get confused by that? Maybe time to up the dosage on your valium. :thumbup

Back to hair-splitting Tom, you wrote:

" . . . you wouldn't be paying for all those other TrueVision sports channels at all."

If you want to split hairs, why did you include the words "at all", which give an absolute quality to the statement? For example:

"Have you eaten anything today?" "No, I haven't eaten at all."

Meaning - Absolutely nothing has been eaten.

"Do I have to do anything?" "No, you don't have to do anything at all."

Meaning - Absolutely nothing needs to be done.

"Did you find anything?" "No, I didn't find anything at all."

Meaning - Absolutely nothing has been found.

"Did you hear a noise?" "No I didn't hear anything at all."

Meaning - Absolutely nothing has been heard.

Back to CT's sentence:

" . . .you wouldn't be paying for all those other TrueVision sports channels at all."

Does this mean that absolutely nothing needs to be paid? Obviously not since I wouldbe paying for any of the TrueVision sports channels that came with the package, wouldn't I? :clap1

English is a tough language, Tom, especially for non-native speakers, like you Scots. It's understandable that you would forget some things as you enter your "golden years". I suggest you sit down in a comfy chair, have one of the attendants get your favorite quilt, tuck it in nice and snug around your frail upper body, and watch some of your beloved footie on TV. It has a soothing, relaxing, monotonous quality about it . . . sort of like static . . . or a test pattern.

If Tom needs Valium in your opinion, you should take something a lot stronger. Try a good dose of Nembutal. It will help relax and sleep for a very long time. :rotflmao

Dearie me, Vic.

All those Sports Channels do come with the Platinum package which includes ATN. You can pick it up for 250 Baht a month.

As for your English lesson, you're confusing "at all" with "anything at all". Just try preceeding "at all" in my sentence with "anything" - that puts paid to your absolute quality nonsense. Nice try, but you fucked up as normal. :kissing

I'd stick to the soaps if I was you. :thumbup

Tom, Tom, Tom, what do you not understand about the phrase, "I'm not going to pay to have more soccer beamed into my apartment"? :allright If I pay for the TrueVision Silver package, which will give me ASN, I will also be paying for the 3 other TrueVision channels, which show soccer and shit sports 24/7.

Notice I've eliminated the word "all" so as not to confuse your addled brain.

Even if I never watch those other channels. Even if I only see a brief 1 second glimpse of the polka-dot-ball-sport as I flip through the channels. Even if they lower the price to one baht per month, it's against my nature to pay for TV that brings shit into my living room.

I WOULD pay if they would install it and then immediately have a technician let me watch while he removes the shit TrueVision sports channels, if I could watch him remove the tiny strand of cable that carries those shit TrueVision sports channels. If I could hold that tiny stand of cable in my hand and then crumple it and throw in the dumpster in my complex parking lot, THEN I might pay for TrueVision . . . maybe.

Now go lie down. It's time for your nap. :crying:

If anyone wants to watch a good game of football, turn on your TV and switch to Channel 7. Atletico Madrid are playing a friendly against a combined Bankok Premier League team at the Rajamangala Stadium. The game started about 20 minutes ago. Unfortunately, Forlan from Uruguay, named the best player of the World Cup is not playing. Damn it, I had no idea Atletico Madrid were playing today, until I read the Bangkok Post a while ago. If I would have known sooner, I would have made my way to Bangkok to watch the game.

I understand it's not a phrase at all. :grin-jump Are you sure that you're an English teacher? Or do they just dress you up in the clown's outfit to entertain the kids? :grin-jump

Anyway, what you mean is that you prefer to moan about the absence of US sports on your TV rather than actually doing something about it. If you don't want to see the footie, just block the channels you don't want to see - a bit like Ignore Member on here. If it all sounds a bit difficult, just ask one of the girlies to do it for you. :grin-jump

I bet Vicky was enthralled when he watched the soccer game between Atletico Madrid against the combined Bangkok side this afternoon. Atletico Madrid won this practice match 3:0. :grin

By The Associated Press (CP) – 19 hours ago

BANGKOK — Europa League champion Atletico Madrid played without two of its top players but still eased past a team of Thailand all-stars 3-0 in a pre-season friendly.

The Spanish side dictated play against Thailand's Premier League All Stars from the start Sunday.

Eduardo Salvio of Argentina opened the scoring in the 16th minute followed by Alvaro Dominguez in the 24th. Simao Sabrosa of Portugal scored the third in the 85th minute.

The club's South American stars Diego Forlan and Sergio Aguero remain on break after playing in the World Cup.
