i love the Superbowl and was up at 6 am to watch it. had to miss the end due to a thoughtlessly arranged and clashing golf lesson at 10.

now don't take this wrong.......

it's a personal thing..................but i always groan inwardly when someone fronts up to sing the 'star spangled banner'

i know what's coming you see, and half of me goes 'yuck' when it's time for 'whoever' to stamp his/her personal interpretation of the song on us all and.... it's a-warbling-time.............'''oh say can yeuu ooo, ooo,,oooo see.eeeeee bai the dawns.....earleeee laaaaiit''''

then the camera cuts to shots of misty eyed players, fans etc with hands on their hearts.................gazing with almost religious zeal at their country's flag............sheesh i think...........

.......and then..... the other half of me 'gets it'.

the united states has a flag that quite rightly they all feel they can rally behind. and i'm envious.

black or white, rich or poor they unite behind it...........it doesn't have to be a war....or a match against iran to get you all gooey.

there is none of the equivocation that applies in britain to the flag, or the national anthem. or patriotism come to that.

coincidently i was watching 'the sons of anarchy' on dvd just last night........the biker gangs..... 'cracker or nigger' to quote from the series scatter the stars and stripes liberally round their respective gang huts. however much outside the law or in opposition they are ... that they're proud to be american is a taken......ok it's only a tv series but it's an important unifying message that is being re-inforced..........

the flag is everywhere in the us and why not.

i still think they should drop the bloody soloist and just let you all sing.......... before you forget the words.

It was a good game, what I saw of it when I wasn't dozing off. I napped for a bit at 21-3 and woke up in time for the Steelers' coming back from a devastating point gap...then fuck, I fell asleep at the 4th quarter.

I envy the folks in the Americas who can watch it during the normal daytime.

The half time show was mightily soporific, however, so I blame the Black Eyed Peas, Usher, and that ostentatious costuming they thought was "cool".

Bring back rock bands.

Black Eyed Peas and Usher make me almost glad that I slept through the game. While neither are west coast teams, I'd have been rooting for the Steelers. Oh well.

Glad the Packers won. Smallest city in the NFL wins the big prize. A victory for socialism (in the NFL they take money from the rich teams and share it with the poor teams. So much for democracy. :clueless )
