Being in Thailand too long

Recommended Posts

Having been in Thailand for going on 11 years now, I find myself amusing myself in strange ways. I was wondering if I am strange, or if others do the same?

1) Stopping into the local 7-11 every morning for my breakfast, I find something strange. Thai people will go and get their things, and then leave them at the counter while they go and find other things to purchase. On several occasions, the cashier has not noticed them putting their things on the counter. So, I procede to purchase the items the people had left waiting at the cashiers station, even though I really didn't want them. I wonder what the Thai people thought when they came back to find their things gone? Bwahahahaha!

2) Driving down the motorway. Does anyone else like to play "the blocking game" with people that think they are too busy to wait in line to get past slower traffic? I like to bait them, and at the last moment, speed up and block them in behind the slower traffic. Great fun!\

3) Acting like you can't understand or speak Thai language, just to hear the locals murder the English language? Great fun as well.

4) Messing with the police when they pull you over for no reason, and making them so flustered about not being able to tell me what they thing I did wrong, that they just wave me to go. Love this!

5) Cutting in cue at stores as the Thais do, because they can't wait in line. This really baffles them, and I just think it is bliss.

6) Bargaining with the locals. Just using very shrewd bargaining tactics to the point that it gets them uneasy, and then walking away with no intention to make the purchase.

Am I strange? Does anyone else enjoy similar things?

In other words, you act like a cunt.

Well, when applying for a house loan recently, my wife was told that becasue she is married to a farang that she would be rejected. I found this to be not to my liking. There is no reason for her to be rejected, when people that make far less that us as a household get approved for a loan. I then went to the bank, and informed the man in charge that I would be removing all my money from his bank. To this, he was not too bothered. I know, my money is not big like the high rollers. The next day, I went to the bank in question, and removed all my money. I then deposited it into another bank. A week later, the manager of the bank called and said that he had made a mistake, and that our loan would be put back into cue for approval. I assume this is because I removed all my money from his bank, and declared that his bank would never see another satang of my money again.

HSBC was more than happy to receive my money into a new account. I swore that a Thai bank would never see another satang of my money, for no other reason than being racist cunts.

I pay 20% tax to the Thai governement. For what? When I have no work, or am too old to work, they will tell me to piss off home. If it wasn't for being married, and having children, it would be 30%. I need to pay 30% for the privelage to be treated like shit in their country? The old saying still holds true, the only way to motivate a Thai, is to mess with their money.

Why should I be held to different standards that a Thai, when I pay MORE taxes than they do, without any benefits?

When in Thailand, do as the Thai's do. Why should it be any different?

120K is fast enough don't you think? Why is there a need to go faster than this?

I love it when you are pissed at me. It shows me how much you really love me. ;)

You don't pay more taxes than a Thai person, drop yourself onto your staff's salary and you will see you are taxed the same, alternatively pay your staff the same as yourself and the will pay the same as you.

When I am old and can not work, will the Thai goverment take care of me with all the Social Taxes I have paid in? NOPE! The will tell me to fuck off home.

That 750 baht per month (from memory) social tax is paid on-top of your agreed salary from your employers pocket.......... as I said you are not paying any more tax the your staff.

Probably the same reason why I pay 58,000, taxes here just like home are scaled to the actual income, if you want to pay zero drop your yearly salary back to 150,000b.

Do farangs get the same help as Thai's when they pay taxe for multiple years working here?...................NOPE!

You as a tax payer have access to the same benefits as a Thai whilst your employment is current.

Keep in mind there is nothing out here like a pension back home, once your kicked to the kerb so is the benefits, same as a thai.

You get the same for your tax money as the Thai's, it all goes into the government coffers to keep the country going, is the concept of taxes seriously that lost on you, did you not pay them back home ?

Fair enough. I just don't see the increase from 7% I used to pay to the now 20%+. How is my life here better than before?

Your life is better due to the salary that reflects the tax increase, unless of course like me, I was paid minimum to satisfy the visa extension (50,000b per month) and the rest offshore cash whilst the company I work for was 50% foreign owned, when it became 100% Thai owned my salary changed to a full Thai salary paying the amount I do now.

As I said if your not happy reduce your taxable salary.

lol neither are mine, hence my current monthly tax outgoings.

Another way to do it to have your contract altered, the tax year is January 1st to December 31st.

If your salary is 150,000b and you start work on June 1st you technically only pay tax on the last 6 months of the financial year, effectively reducing your tax bill by 50%, however if your contract is renewed before the expiration of the other you will jump back up to the full rate, keep in mind if you can get onto seperated contracts the severance allowance always starts again as your employment is not technically continuous.

The above fucks me as Iam non contract permanent employee so there's fuck all I can do apart from getting married to recoup some.
