The Christchurch Quake

Recommended Posts

Hi there guys and galls. I am sure that there are some out there that think this is an inappropriate thread however I am also sure that if this is the case that the mods will shift it.

I know that there are a number of Boardies that are New Zealanders out there as well as a number that have been here in times past and enjoyed the experience. For these reasons I am updating you as follows.

Whilst the death toll is now in the 180’’s, it is anticipated to rise to 240 or so. There is a major international force of about 1000 people assisting in the search, rescue and recovery.

Now then, here is an interesting bit of maths (and I hope that I got them correct) and it puts this disaster into context.

The number of dead as a percentage of the population here is totally over the top. Look at the following rounded number:

World Trade Centre. 1 died for every 109,000 USA population.

London 2005 bombings. 1 died for every 107,000 GB population.

Christchurch Earthquake. 1 died for every 17,900 NZ population.

I think that you can see what this is such a catastrophe, at about 6 times the rate of those mentioned.

If anyone need more info or contact numbers just PM me.

So... your saying that each person in christchurch is "6 times" more important and/or more missed then each of those from the other "incidents"?

Not cool dude.

Its a tragedy, to be sure... and our well wishes go out to the families of those lost. But there is no way you can compare the above events in the way you are trying to.

240 grieving families is quite a bit less than the 2752 families that grieved (and are still grieving) after the trade center tragedy.

FFS If this is the way you interpret "Teelack's" post then you have a serious comprehension problem! Nowhere did he state that it was anymore IMPORTANT etc than the other quoted tragedies! We all grieve equally and commiserate with the surviving families and support them as best we can as PROVED by the inpouring of sympathy for the 9/11 victims!

The way I read his post is that this tragedy is inclined to be more PERSONAL than the others quoted, as unlike them with NZ having such a small population a majority of ALL of us know either a victim or someone that knows someone affected!

NOT COOL DUDE!!!! :banghead :banghead

This has to be the most shit thread I've read for a very long time.

Teelack, whatever way you look at it 240 dead is not a lot considering all the destruction.

In the great scheme of things, who really gives a fuck?
