On Friday Afternoon at Central Festival Pattaya Beach, Khun Itipon, the Mayor of Pattaya led a press conference to announce the local activities for the Pattaya Songkran Festival. It was announced that on 19th April which is the day when Pattaya celebrates Songkran, Pattaya Beach Road will be closed to traffic to allow for revelers to enjoy the Festival without fear of traffic jams and drunk drivers causing road accidents. There will be an alcohol ban and a ban on using White Powder during the day; however the effective policing of these regulations will be major challenge for the Police who tend to stay away from the water as much as they can, unless an emergency occurs. In Naklua between 18th and 20th April at Lan Po a traditional Songkran Festival will take place whereby water can be placed over the hands of elders and other activities will be taking place as well. If you require further information on the Pattaya Songkran Festival, please call the Pattaya City Call Center on 1337.

A couple of comments from my staff when I told them about this:

 

Tak - "Who him? He crazy! No one listen in Pattaya. Him CRAZY!!!"

 

The Captain - When he stopped laughing he just shook his head and said "NO" laughed again and said "people not listen"

 

Captains assistant - "many many people listen one people - no, have Songkran before, no-one listen"

 

Tak - "will have many many people win, not listen him"

Sorry, got interrupted during the posting and as the comments and subsequent post reveal (INCLUDING THE ORIGINAL HIGHLIGHTS) the intention was "alcohol" not water.

PS: Nobody seemed to notice that the local police "tend to stay away from the water as much as they can", but who cares about the reported "facts" as long as you can bag someone? Some of you need to get a life ....

Seems I'm not the only one changing headings LOL.

 

I 100% checked that when I discussed it with the staff as I have seen others caught this way before. When I found it it was in the latest news area. Seems they rehash things like every other news outlet (and some forums).

 

- anyway, still shows how much everyone listened last year.

 

- now just waiting for the usual mob to attack.

I think its near impossible to enforce the ban. I seem to remember the biggest stages on Beach Road last year was the beer companies!

most probably the potential attackers are also old grumpy men who avoid songkran so it doesnt matter to them! 555555555

 

I would seriously consider my yearly trip if alcohol was banned. Not much fun walking up and down Beach Road sober ; even if there are lots of puyngs in wet tees.
