Paul Scholes retires aged 36

Recommended Posts

A vastly underrated player, I suggested he was a class player in another thread and was shot down, not 'world class' mind like Zindane & co, just class for English football and certainly someone that ranks highly by those who can see the bigger picture, anti Man U muppets and spandex sport loving know nothing yanks are hardly worth arguing with, which is why I haven't bothered. Arguing on the internet with ankle biters is a waste of time.

Anyway, the point of this thread is to pay respect to someone I've often admired because despite his clumsy tackling as pointed out by one of the muppets, this is a guy that would arrive at the right time with perfection, a silent assassin, deadly in and out the box, I fondly remember that volley against Villa for example, absolute corker, in his later years when he dropped pace through age, he reinvented himself by focusing on the passing side of his game, these are the kind of things that separate average players from great or class players.

I solute you Scholesy, one of Man U's better players in Fergie's era, IMO better than that baby buntin twat Ronaldo who spent more time lollipoping himself and crying than anything else yet gets all the accolades just because of 'one season', Scholes has quietly gone about the business of controlling midfield for what seems like forever, I rate Giggs a bit higher for his skill, but Scholes is still a legend for what he has brought to the game, a model professional and worthy of any school boys aspirations.

Xavi once described Scholes as "a reference" - an indication of the respect in which the 36-year-old was held around the world

Scholes was held in high esteem by his fellow professionals - in 2009, former world player of the year Zinedine Zidane said he was "the complete midfielder" and "my toughest opponent".

Pep Guardiola : ''out of everyone at Manchester United, I would pick out Scholes - he is the best midfielder of his generation, I would have loved to have played alongside him.''

Edgar Davids : ''i'm not the best, Paul Scholes is.''

Jose Mourinho : “scholes? Fantastic! Why isn’t he playing for England? It is crazy. Only in England. Scholes is a great, great player. So experienced and still, for me, one of the best in the world in midfield. Manchester United are lucky to have him.

The above quotes are just a small handful of tributes, but I think they say it all really.

Enjoy your retirement Mr Scholes, you've earned it. :chogdee

I dont think anyone neutral would argue that he was one of the best midfielders of his generation

but now his legs have gone, he cannot avoid the bad tackles and the subsequent cards, IMHO time to retire.

Glad he decided to take my advice :whistling:

"clumsy tackles" my arse

he was a dirty little bastard who got away with it way too often

good riddance to him

ABSOLUTLY 100% CORRECT!!!!!

and because Scholes is typical of the Man U mind set (or should i say mindless,) he was regarded as a hero, yes pass a long ball wonderfully, but a complete arsehole. The Man U fans love Looney :wanker: , but come on even by the standards of a Mongers board the guy is a pratt :sperm: . Shaggin a brass while ya wife has YOUR baby for fuck sake!!!!!

Scum U will be nowhere next season without their main man. only WORLD CLASS on and off the pitch Mr V De Saar. :bow
