Yes to add to the old helmut one! I have been going to Pattay for about 6 yrs now and always hire a scooter and have my friend on behind we always wear the helmet and keep a copy of the hire document and my licence on me. I have never been stopped but I have sat and watched the antics of the police noticably stopping the tourists whilst passing on the locals with no helmets or even that clown with the frame on the bike to carry soft toys! I have also seen several police especially on soi Bukaow ride with their forage caps only ! I have also been reliably informed by a thai girl I know that she has been caught without the helmet and pleaded poverty and said 100 bhat no paperwork and it works! As for the drink driving I do not agree with it in any shape form or fashion you only have to recall those two young lads from wales on the fireblade near big c. Again I have been told that a small amount of bhat handed over at the time gets you on your way obviously not if you are out of your tree!

On the point of roadstops yes is the answer the Thai's are doing more large roadstops I have witnessed such on a regular basis when I was ther during May past on Pattaya Klang and on the siam country club road, they were ther in large groups and I was told not all were regular police. Mayne some kind of volunteers or something?

I shared a cab with the father of one of the Welsh lads, met him at the Heathrow carousel a week later getting luggage, asked if he had a good trip and he tols me, tragic indeed.

He was very dignified indeed but had been through so much after trying to locate his sons boody and all the rest, tragic it was.

wearing a seat belt is for your own safety, so why not just strap it on when you get in the vehicle ?

Laugh it up fat boy. I will be in your area in a couple days. You just never know when you are going to see me?

How about your stupid fat ass getting drunk, and wrapping the company truck around a light pole, and losing your job? 5555! ROFLMAO!

Agree.

I remember when the seatbelt law was introduced in Blighty and it seemed such an awkward pain in the arse to put it on.....now it seems the natural thing to do when jumping in a car..

I remember when they tried to make it necessary to put yourself into the seat belt when climbing into the car.

The upper part was attached to the door & you'd basically have to intentionally wriggle your way around it if you didn't want it strapping you in.

Not sure why they did away with that design, but it seems to have gone the way of the dinosaurs.

They need to get ALL vehicles to illuminate their running lights when the motor is running & it wouldn't hurt to make the headlights turn on auto at a certain light level also.

It seems the "don't wanna turn my headlights on until it's PITCH Black" is now a Worldwide plague & only 20% of the remaining safety conscious people actually turn on their lights in the rain or at dusk.
