North Pattaya or South?  That is the question?  First time in March BKK for three then Pattaya for 9 days. South or North for being close to the action? How far is it from S. to N. bus? walk? Taxi?  Tried to see hard to picture unless you have been there?  Anybody been there?

I like staying at the Residence Garden - far enough away from the action to be quiet but only a few minutes jouney by baht bus.

As a rough guide, it takes about an hour to walk from Walking Street to the Dolphin Roundabout at North Pattaya. But why walk when baht buses are plentiful?

I have stayed North on Soi 2 and Southish on Soi 7.

For action Soi 7 and 8 are the places I would recommend staying and you can bar hop down to walking street which is not that far away.

I will be staying on Soi 2 when I return in 3 weeks time as I prefer that area because it is quieter during the daytime and you avoid the instant hassle from bargirls as soon as you go out from the hotel anywhere.Soi 2 has some great beer bars at the adjoining second rd and baht buses pass all the time so you can be at walking street in around 5 to 10 minutes.A little bit to far to walk I think unless you are feeling energetic.

Although I enjoyed South Pattaya(soi 7 my hotel,Flipper House),I found it a bit tiresome after a few days of staying there. The action is the best around though if you enjoy hundreds of screaming bargirls running at you from all the bars as you walk down the soi every night.

have a great time

I've stayed on soi 7 & 8 many times but somehow I missed the hundreds of screaming bargirls chasing me.

Pattaya is easy to get around espically the area you are interested in. From soi 2 to Walking Street by baht bus if there is no traffic is less then a 5 minute ride up Beach Rd. From Walking Street walk one block to Second Rd and go with the traffic flow toward soi 2 almost all the bars, clubs,mp, etc are located within that rectangle.

As soon as you get to your hotel pick up your free map.

We had thought about staying at the Markland hotel.  Wondering if that is to far from the action?  It is close to MP I see, how about gogo bars? and beer bars? are they in the North also. I hear you can take a cab or bus, do they run all night? how hard is it to get one late at night? Thank you guys.....you are  truly the best!!

Check out the maps at:

They should help you orient yourself.

As others have said, the Baht Buses make getting around so easy that you really don't have to worry about being in one place or the other.  For everyone it will boil down to personal preference so just go with a good hotel your first stay.

Where is "too far from the action"?

I've come to prefer North as its a little quieter and less congested. South has too many hustles, too much traffic and for me Walking Street is overpriced and more for tourist rubberneckers with their fat wives.

Soi7 & 8, soi 6 and soi 2 for me. Side trips to Naklua Road also.

If you want to enjoy the beach: south Pattaya or maybe better on Jomtien. Jomtien is quiet and if you are not a ST enthusiast better with the girls too. Naklua beaches are sucks and Pattaya beach even worst.

Markland Hotel is a good place to stay. Beach Rd is right out the door. BigC shopping center is one block away on 2nd Road. Guest friendly and the baht bus is right out the door.

Markland is fine hotel indeed, ... but as far as I could see during my last stay almost all room have two beds separated. If you like a big bed chose another one. Beachview almost next to the markland has big beds, at least in the sea-side suites.

Live here, and like both. North is a little quieter which can be a slightly cheaper alternative.

Worth trying Soi 2 complex and Classroom 2000 across the Soi, and Atlantic Bar.

Also some good bars in Naklua just past the Dolphin roundabout.

Still love Walking Street. area, but a bit more in your face.

My first time in Pattaya was North, and a few years later still rate it.

It doesn’t really matter which part of town you stay, only a few minutes on the baht bus or taxi from Walking Street to Naklua. but worth trying all for your evening entertainment.
