Time and distance - stupid question award

Recommended Posts

This might win the stupidest question award but after reading what seems like the entire board I have two basic questions about time and distance.  I've seen and collected some great maps about pattaya but none of them have a legend that shows scale or distances.  I see a dot for a nice hotel and then read that it sits on 8 acres!?  I can't get a sense of how big this place is.

The other question is about the time.  I'm leaving from California.  Can anyone tell me what time it is in Pattaya when it's 9:00am in California?

PS. What do I Win?

12 O'Clock Midnight if it is 9 AM in Califorina. and Pattaya is not that big you can get anywhere from anywhere for very little money.

Not such a stupid Question

The scale of some of the maps can be a bit misleading.

A rough guide to distances in Pattaya. From Walking Street to the Dolphin Roundabout (by the Dusit Resort Hotel) in North Pattaya is about an hour's walk - assuming you don't get too distracted by the freelancers along the beach side of Beach Road  ;D

California is now 13 hours behind Pattaya, 14 hours during daylight saving time.  Another way to find the time in Pattaya, is to look at the top of this page.  One thing about the maps you usually see, Beach Rd and 2nd Rd look like they are parallel, but Beach Rd follows the curve of the bay.  The length of Soi 4 is about 3 times the length of Pattayaland 2.

Emil,

I don't think you are correct re time difference. Thailand is GMT + 7 all year round. California is now GMT -8 since the clocks went back the hour. I maintain the difference is 15 hours and would agree with Yesitisdakid.

You are right about the difference of 14 hours in daylight savings time. You have probably subtracted an hour rather than added it on. :)

I think somebody is full of shit.  You need to add the 8 hours , not go the other way.

Simple exercise:

   1)  Check the little clock thingy in the bottom right corner on your computer.  Try to remember it.

   2)  Go to this website and note the time in Bangers at that same moment. http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/city.html?n=28

Remember it will be AHEAD of any time in the USA.

In my case here in the Midwest, it is approx. 13:00 hours or 1 pm.  It is approx 2:00 or 2 am in BKK.  That means BKK is 13 hours ahead of Central Standard Time. Pacific time would be approx. 11:00 hours or 11 am right now.  That means BKK is 15 hours ahead of Pacific Standard Time.  Think you had it dead on there Larry if I'm not mistaken?

This is not rocket science boys & girls.... ;) ;) ;)

Growler,

Your correct, I subtracted instead of adding, however I still think the easiest way to find out Thailand time is to look at the top of these pages.

Larry, your right, this time next week I'll just look at my watch.   ;D ;D

Hi Emil,

Hope you took my intro with a grain of salt?  No insult intended, buddy.  Note the little winks?

The only problem with looking at the top of the page is if you set the time difference on your profile page.  It adjusts the time at the top of the page to your home time then.

Have a great time in LOS!  22 days and I'll be wheels-up for a short visit too!

As for the distance question, I'd say you really won't want to walk from North Pattaya to Walking Street all that often.  But don't forget, there wiil be a Baht bus that'll go by about every 30 seconds.  Very simple to just hop on one and ring the bell when you want to get off.
