Personally I do not think they are cheap enough to get to bangkok via KL.

I can get direct flights from Heathrow for the price they want

Just checked Gatwick, return in november no cheaper if your having to pay for meals etc, more expensive than several other airlines.

Maybe I am wrong in my thinking but I always thought on AA as a budget carrier certainly within Asia and I have used them as such many times. Infact I am hoping they start up the BKK to Clark in the Philippines soon as discussed, but looking at their prices well after all the hype when they started from Stansted I never found them cheap. Also the reports about the seating arrangement on their crafts made ne consider them a non runner. I use Eithad all the time as a result I have now got to silver and have free use of the lounges which I find great means you can get a bite to eat and a shower all into the already reasonable price when you hit at the right time.

AirAsia X to switch from Stansted to Gatwick

AirAsia X is to shift its London base from Stansted to Gatwick from October 2011.

The budget long-haul carrier currently flies six times a week between Stansted and Kuala Lumpur where flights feed into the Air Asia low-cost network across Southeast Asia.

AirAsia X also operates from Kula Lumpur to Bombay, Delhi, Melbourne, Perth, Christchurch, Wellington and several cities in China.

As the UK’s second-biggest airport, Gatwick will offer AirAsia X greater commercial possibilities.

The carrier has flown from Stansted since its launch in 2008.

AirAsia X is also believed to considering operating from Manchester airport. The carrier also flies from Paris Orly.

I have used them many times as well, but their pricing has almost doubled compared to what it was a couple of years ago. I used them mostly HKG to BKK and they are actually priced higher than other, full-service, airlines most of the time now. Too bad, they have some hotties. :thumbup
