I'm a mount'n man, I like mount'n women  ;D

Sorry, thought I'd get that in before someone else did. If you're serious about mountain biking in such a hot climate when you could put all that energy to a much more enjoyable pastime with all the little brown honies, then more power to you. I know what I'd rather be riding!  ;D

Hey mate,

Some helpful info for you.

My last trip I rented a mountain bike, cant remember the exact location of the shop but it was near the bowling alley on 2nd road as you go towards Jomtien if that helps.

The only trail I went on was one near the hill with the big buddha, god damm hot work.

Ml,

The reason everyone is ribbing you is because the tropical climate is unlike anything you're familiar with (I see that you're from England):  the heat is like a blast furnace and the humidity is oppressive (though if you visit in the "cool" season it's not quite that bad).   I consider myself to be in good shape doing martial arts.  In LOS, I'm dying within 5 to 10 minutes.  Personally I'm in awe at the Muay Thai guys; but to be fair, Thais really can tolerate the climate better than farangs.

As OzNoomLaw says, there's not any places to ride.  There are no bike paths.  There is traffic which, unfortuately, you'll be riding along with.  You'll see when you visit.

Believe me, riding a bike in the sun is tough.  By the way, bring sun block.  Although you'll see some visitors tanning themselves, don't be one of them.  You can get sunburnt within 20 minutes.  Alot of sun worshippers end up passing right through the hoped-for "golden bronze" zone right onto "lobster red".  You can guess what that would do for your sanukking holiday.

MI,

I myself am a keen mountain biker. I've been regularly riding fo 15years. I own a fully loaded Cannondale worth EUR2000.

I hired a "decent" bicycle a few years back somewhere just off 2nd rd, I think about 40baht a day. It was a late model Apollo with 50mm of travel on the front shocks.

No trails to explore in pattaya that I am aware of. But I did ride to Jomtien and to the hill top lookout. I found the traffic in pattaya really dangerous(crazy baht bus drivers cutting you off, motorscooters, cars, pedestrians, dogs, and potholes in the roads) travel insurance is recommended. So I resorted to riding up and down beach rd pathway in the evening and night.

Also the sun and heat is quite extreme during the day, after half an hour of riding I was dehydrated, so plenty of water and sunscreen is needed.

I now give the bikes a miss whenever I am in pattaya and enjoy a cooler ride on the jet skis.

There is/was a decent bike shop which stocked Cannondale and Specialized. Possibly Trek also.

It was on 2nd Rd near to the covered market and by the hospital at the back of the Little Duck Hotel. Find the Little Duck. Stay on the left hand side of the road and go down to the last set of traffic lights on the left and it's a few minutes walk along.

I've cycled in SEAsia and yes it is hot but you do get used to it as long as you keep up your fluid intake. I've also had a nasty dose of sunstroke without doing any major physical exercise, apart from riding a moped in the sun.

So keep covered up and it's always handy to have a packet of rehydration salts on you. You could just pop it i n your water bottle before you set out and mix it up. Alternatively take some sugar and salt, mix with a litre of water and drink. Repeat as necessary. Lie down and rest in the shade if you start feeling awful. If really bad get some medical attention.
