Khan v Judah - Predictions?

Recommended Posts

For anyone interested the Khan v Judah fight is on Astro Supersports 2 starting at 8 a.m. on Sunday morning. I know some places have Astro and some cable companies carry the Astro Supersport feed.

As for the boxing itself, my far from expert opinion, or rather hope, is for a Khan victory. I'm not totally convinced how good he actually is, so I suppose this fight will give us some decent pointers in that respect.

Agree with Johnny. The point of the fight is to move Khan along. I'd put about 100 baht on that happening. I'm not at all confident about Khan having much, in the big picture. But if he's going to get that multi-million payday in a couple of years, he needs to get through about three fights like this where it SEEMS he's doing well to win. I'm going to assume his handlers have somehow figured out he is odds-on to win this one or they wouldn't let climb in the ring. I don't think it's a contest so much as cold, calculated business.

Who know though, humans are always screwing up sure-thing business deals and it could turn out to be an actual fight. Hope so.

Unfortuantley has been the case in boxing for 20 years and when we occasionally get a contest between two evenly matched top boxers the sport captures some of its lost glories and people still tune in in the millions to watch , however happens way to infrequently.

I suppose, but I'm still thinking of the last heavyweight "fight" which was clearly a pay-day and not a real fight at all. You still don't see fights QUITE that cynical too often.

But my glasses are still a little more rose-coloured than yours. The idea of treating these guys like an investment is nothing new. Cassius Clay was a great example, but he certainly wasn't the first. And carefully shepherding fighters through their rise to contender isn't new either. I agree that it seem much more in-your-face these days, and I think that's because as you also say, the shine is off the sport in general - so you see it more or notice it more - one or both.

A lot of times, like the Khan fight coming up, you have to hope that the handlers really effed up and it will be a great fight. I don't have much hope for this one.

Handlers pick and choose carefully when their guy is on the way up. That's what we are seeing here. Judah is on the way down, notwithstanding his recent "run" against nobodies. BUT, he may be the most experienced guy Khan has faced to date, Judah having been in with Floyd, Cotto and others. I'm sure he learned something from those fights.

But in the end, Khan is young and strong.

Sure, and they've always done that. Always. What I was getting at was a pretty new and very cynical offshoot - that the ONLY sole exclusive solitary unique reason to bring the kid along is for a payday. In "the good old days" they were making a contender who would reign as champ - or that was always their goal. A lot of these guys today, you can really sense the handlers don't think he's good enough to be champion and only look to squeeze one title fight out of HBO. Again - I may be more aware of this because of Haye, and I'm hope I'm wrong, that Khan really can fight. So far, I'm way unconvinced.

Yes, you are right about the payday tactic. In the old days they fought their way up and got paid peanuts, maybe a title shot after 40-50 hard fights but it was about getting a title shot. Willie Pep was 52-0 before getting a title shot.

Today the TV money means mediocrities can score a million-dollar payday even after a dozen fights. Khan isnt championship material yet and 140 is a very tough division.

You pretty much summed it up, Johnny. Still, a good, efficient night's work by Khan I thought.

I missed it, sorry to say. According to the reports: Yes he Khan.

Khan very easily , Judah hardly touched him. Bit of suspicion of a low blow that ended it, hower IMO it was more of a face saving tactic from Judah he wasn't able to lay a glove on Khanh and was getting pummled his face really busted up and when he hit around the belt it was an easy out, go down stay down without the inevitable KO punch that was coming.

And Haye had a broken foot, and the North Korean women got hit by lightning.

You lost, Judah. Stop whining like a little girl. I've seen the replay and frankly no one even believes it was a low blow. But man up and live with it. You lost the fight, period, and NOT with one punch -- you never had a chance. Very nice work by Khan, frankly. Definitely boosts his rep.
