US Navy in Pattaya ?

Recommended Posts

As a retired Army Sergeant, I enjoy being in town during Cobra Gold, Carat, and any other exercises or just when the "Fleet is in".  Guess I share a bond with all military troops that some of the "punters" wouldn't understand.

I'd rather break bread or have a drink with someone who is serving his country than someone who has never served I guess.

I look forward to being in Pattaya all during this year's Cobra Gold.

T-Rex,

I don't think that guys are particularly worried what nationality the servicemen are - it is the effect they have on the sanuk that puts some guys off.  Many, if not most, of the girls during CG will try to fit in as many servicemen ST as they can during the main deployment -not due to any personal preferences but simply it is easier to extract as much cash in a short space of time as possible from these guys than it is from your average tourist.  Therefore, Helmut from Hamburg, Pierre from Paris etc will be pretty poor second choices for the girls during CG. :-[

As other guys have pointed out the CG personnel do tend to "take over" South Pattaya (most of the lookers get snatched up pretty early in the evening) and that may not be everybodies cup of tea, particularly if you are a Newbie and don't know where to escape the masses. ???

Like the US, I'm sure the vast majority of the UK public support our armed forces, if not the policies of our own, or any other, government.  That support may not extend to the desire to spend their annual holidays in the company of a couple of thousand drunken sailors.  If that was the case they would probably opt for a fortnight in Portsmouth. :o

Regards,

Tom

There is a good reason most of the guys in Pattaya don't share a bond with the U. S. military.  They happen to be not from the U.S.

utter bollocks.

as tom said, the reason people try to avoid c/g is that they think they cannot compete with 20 year old marines for the girls favours.

Hell! 60-65 year old men can in no way compete with a 20-30 year old marine/sailor.  I think the girls would go with them for the st money of course.  But take this into account.  These people are gonna have a real good time,  by anyones standards.  Mabey the bg's wanna have some fun too!  Do some things they don't get to do too often or ever for that matter.

Hey Guys,

I don't see what all the drama is about...I have been in Pattaya during the last two CG's and besides the MP's I didn't notice any difference from other times of the year.  Never had a problem with the servicemen and have met heaps and enjoyed their company...when it's all said and done I don't think the TG's give a shit who you are either...Sanuk

I'm planning a May trip this year but I'm not worried if there are a lot of Navy there as I know Pattaya well enough to go to the places they don't go . It's not that I don't like the guys , it's just that generally the lookers  [smiley=tits.gif] have already been bf'd by them , leaving me with the  [smiley=tongue.gif] .

Anyway , if/when the war with Iraq starts exercises like CG will probably be cancelled as the Navy will be doing the real thing  [smiley=AR15firing.gif] .

This is what we call PARANOYA,

do you really think that your so called enemy does not no where all the ships and planes and troops are?

Wake up, this is 2003 and not Germany 1943 or Vietnam

1968.

in the uk our army is taught to keep their mouths firmly shut about anything job, and as big as c/g is i would agree with wandy.

i think wandy is not being paranoid, just using his common sense.

and i am suprised at you joop.

It will be common knowledge when they are coming just as it is every year.  Personally I would avoid this time.  I have made a couple May trips and the place was frickin mobbed.  It's not just the Marines/Navy.  Every service member and civilian who get's to go does their damndest to get to Pattaya (wouldn't you?) and partake in the madness.  If your under 40 and don't have dreadlocks you're assumed to be with the exercise and it ain't alot of fun.  Bars will ask you to pay for your drink before it even arrives and all sorts of silly shit. From Soi 8 south was really packed, hard to walk even and the gogo's are so packed you can't get to a table much less the toilet.  All in all fun can still be had but if I want to be surrounded by fools who'd rather get drunk than pick up girls.....I could stay home.

this is without a doubt the most acurate posting on this topic as it is the worst time to visit pattaya.

the marines are a pain in the butt [smiley=yawn.gif] they think they own the place .

and as far as not mentioning when the navy is in town for security reasons.that is the funniest thing ive read on the board.

they post it on their web page for the enemy to read for themselfs.

You shouldn't be surprised at all Baz, I always check Google or someother web search engine before I post ANYTHING that I may be considered sensitive.  There is not a freaking thing about CG that is classified.  Troops locations are known WELL in advance and even when they put a bunch of Marines down in Hat Yai some industrious (and now richer) Thai had already gotten a bunch of hookers down there from Bangkok waiting for them...

Ships schedule and Port visits are broadcasted at least a month in advance...  you just don't pull up a big ass ship and park it in a parking spot, all sorts of paperwork is involved and Tugs/harbor masters/ and every single hooker in that port know when/where that ship will be.  Even Hotels know, I tried to book a room at the Holiday Inn in Darwin when I was meeting a ship there and the receptionist was "Sorry sir, we have a lot of Navy folks coming, can we get you a room at so and so..."

People tend to kneejerk about things being secret and classified, but ships movements are hardly classified nor are troop locations and what hotels they are staying at...  Usually CNN gives you all the info you need...

Cheers

Joop
