Before going to Thailand (for the first time this pass July) I tried to read everything that I could get my hands on. Most of what I found was over the web.

But I already know a lot about the info on the web. What I'd like to find now are some good books. It doesn't matter if their fiction or opinion/fact as long as there is a Thai theme.

I'll start by offering a link to the site where a friend of mine is selling two of the books that he wrote. I came across them after reading a good review on Stickman's site. I odered them both and got a surprise when I got an email back and learned that the author lives about 10 miles up the road. We got together for a few beers and exchanged the books. Friendship aside, I'll tell you that they're a couple of good reads.

Anyway, I'd like to drop off the link to his site.

Hi Shilo,

If you`ve read Stickmans book review site, it should give you plenty of pointers already.

But here are my takes :

I`ve read almost every single book from Christoffer G.Moore and can recommend each and every one of them. Most of them are set in Bangkok exept Final cut, wich is in Cambodia.

Many of them are a "series" about the Bangkok private eye V. Calvino. Superb books !

Private Dancer is also great ( + free ) you can get the link to the download from the FLB site somewhere. Everybody who is planning to come to LOS, should read this book first  :P

You should also try The Big Mango, written by Jake Needham ( ? ). Absolutely on of the best books I`ve ever read. Also set in Bangkok and SF.

The few one`s I`ve read about Pattaya, I really like Daniel Stern`s  "Pattaya, Patpong on steriods ".

Lots of short stories from a Australien guy that owned a bar in Pattaya. Great book !

I don`t know if you can buy it online though.

I haven`t read the books you wrote about, but it`s sertenly on my " books to read " list ;)

To you guys from Norway, you should read " Kakarlakkene" ! Written by Jo Nesbø.

Best Regards,

Mats

Hi,

Stephan Leather's book "Private Dancer" is an absolute must read. It is already a classic! It's free (PDF-format) and can be downloaded on the author's website www.stephenleather.com. There are also links from Freeelancerbar.com and Stickman.com to the author's site.

It's one of my favourite books. I also liked "Apsara Jet" by Nicolas Merriweather, which is set in the region (Thailand, Cambodia, Laos). I liked it, although it is not as good as Private Dancer (matter of taste I guess).

Thanks for the suggestions. I started to read Private Dancer and got stuck when he started adding recipes:) I'll have to give it another try.

I'm also going to have to hit Amazon to see which of the others I can find. One more that you may not have heard of because it is very new is Thailand Joy buy David Young.

I picked it up in BKK and had to read on my plane ride home. I enjoyed the beek but the ending was a little wierd. Seemed like the author had 4 different endings in mind and decided to go with all four :-/
