I don't want to get too involved with ship schedules and all as that is bad for security purposes (and illegal).   Plus I don't know exactly where the ships are stopping for their port calls.

But I can tell you no single ship in the US Navy carries 8000 folks.  Carriers will hold about 5000+ with the airwing and crew on board.  They do of course have a whole group full of support ships (Carrier Battle Group) but they rarely bring the whole gang in.  I can tell you no carriers are traveling until April through the asia area, so you shouldn't see 8000 sailors in Pattaya in March... Again, I don't know about the smaller boats, but as I type this there are no (planned) carriers moving through Asia in the next month or so.

Even if there were to be 8000 sailors on the ships, not more then half will be allowed out in town on any given day, most will have to be back to the ships by midnight.  I actually had a great time in the Classroom ago-go when I was there a while back.  It was fun to see some kid from nowhere Nebraska staring at some sweet dancer with his eyes wide and mouth open...  Guys ST in the bathroom and anywhere else they could find a niche...  They do affect the prices a bit when they are in town but they are a kick to watch, many of the younger guys have never left their homestate until they went to bootcamp...  They are funny to see man.

Like I said before, don't let the sailors affect your trip, most won't go north of Friends bar area, so Central and North Pattaya are unknown to most of them.  They will stay close to walking street and south Pattaya...  They won't stay more then a couple days either, so don't let them factor into your plans.

This is the best info I have, but you know the Bar Girls know before anybody that the ships are coming in...

I will email some friends for you and see what they say, but don't let it change your plans.

Take care

Cris

Hi Fellas

I've said this before it's a good laugh when the US military are in town, they're a decent bunch of guys and behave themselves better than the tourists.Theres also a raised MP presence in town, with guys on bikes just looking around,so as an individual you tend to feel safer as well [they're usually big fuckers too].

apart from that as Cris said, they hike back on board around Midnight so there are several lashed up TG's about cos they've been brought drinks all night ;D

to quote; "Really don't let it figure in your plans" too true,

just go there and have a good time

Regards

Butch

The real hassle with U.S. armed forces in town is that you pay your bills in baht, and get your change in dollars. ;D ;D

The only problem with 5000 lusty young males in town is that some inhabitants suffer from backache ???

Regards,

Andy

Really it wouldn't matter if the US Navy is in town or not, overall they tend to behave and not act like a bunch of idiots,  somebody said something (Jop) about number of sailors and security concerns of ship's movement, well, who cares 'cause i don't for one thing. last thing i would like to see is the US military bossing people around in Thailand >:(. Been there a few times when the fleet is in and just stay out off their way and mind my own bussines. 8)/

Boy, everybody is really concerned about the Navy pulling in.  I agree with Cris.  It is funny to see a young kid first time away from home, mouth wide open, staring at the dancers in go go bars.  They become corrupted for life!

As long as you don't bother them, they shouldn't bother you and most likely they will buy you a few rounds.  Take into consideration that they either have been out at sea or on their way out to sea for a long period of time, so why the rest of us are partying it up, those Navy guy's are gearing up for a long journey to the Middle East area.  I'm sure that there wont be a shortage of women and beer.
