Java issue?

Java and javascript are two completely different things and the board is not using java.

Enabling javascript in security settings may help.

Using anything but Internet Explorer should help and will prevent exposure to exploits since IE is at best a sieve.

When I post, the buttons in the bar are faded and can't use them....

Click the icon on the upper left first row of your edit toolbar. It's the only one that's enabled, so it should be easy to find.

I didn't know the answer or make the connection when the OP was made...I was going along with the browser settings idea. Then, it just hit me while I was reviewing the new posts. That button takes you into and out of Rich Text Mode, so it would likely disable all the formatting buttons...I tried it, and it did.

Like you said, you learn something new everyday (if you're lucky).
