I really admire the Irish, they'll put whiskey in anything. So, whenever I need a break from crawling the GoGos :drunk I like to 'sober up' with an Irish Coffee at King's Cafe, across from the Ice Bar.

It's a good spot for people watching, and you can peer up at the Eastern European girls on the Moulin Rouge preview stage next door. I've never been inside, so it's interesting to watch customers walking up and down the stairs, and note how long they stay.

Your Irish Coffee is prepared table-side at King's Cafe. Igniting the flame :flamethrower: temporarily attracts the attention of hoards of Walking Street strollers, away from the Michael Jackson impersonator, as they're wondering along like zombies :gone with motion camera turned on, usually fixed on the Moulin Rouge stage girls. Do they bother to watch these when they get home?

After the inside of your mug is coated with whiskey, 3 tablespoons of brown sugar are evenly distributed inside the glass and heated with the flame. Add the coffee, topped off with a delightfully gooey layer of unwhipped cream. Finally, the whiskey is lit and poured over the top like a lava flow. Be careful the flame has expired before raising the glass to your lips. 200 baht, plus 10% service charge, maybe the most expensive Irish Coffee in town (unless it's served at Moulin Rouge).

Used to order at 19th hole, for 150, but is no more. Also, Cafe Patani on Soi Buakhao. Irish Coffee 'purists' may complain about the use of whipped cream, but good value for 130. Where else can I get a good Irish Coffee?

Irish Coffee, it's not just for breakfast anymore!

As intimated "That" is not even remotely like Irish Coffee! I would say for the real deal you need to go to the more upmarket restaurants such as Bruno's etc. However if the pantomime version is what you are after; Probably the best show and vast range of different alcohols added would be at the Ruen Thai. The most alcoholic one I've had was at King Seafood(probably the most expensive too !), but I think the coffee artiste was pissed that night :gulp

Ruen Thai sounds interesting, I'll check it out.

THIS is what I call an Irish Coffee:

The Guiness Book of World Record's largest Irish Coffee. From the Buena Vista Cafe in San Francisco, which serves about 2,000 a day (mostly 6 ounce glasses), and where I discovered this exhilarating elixir.

I've had Irish Coffee there, as well as at the once famous Henry Africa's on Van Ness Avenue. They make it quite simply. A few cubes of sugar in the bottom of a wine glass,, a shot of Bushmill's (or Jameson's, depending on their politics), a stir, then a topping of whipped cream, and finished. Takes about 20 seconds, and they used to move hundreds an hour.

I do enjoy the full show Irish made in some of the restaurants around Pattaya, and can't complain about either the presentation or the quality of the drink. In fact, I think it's a vast improvement on the assembly line quicky style sold in San Francisco's bars.

It was a drink made famous at the Buena Vista, and a particularly San Francisco libation..great for those foggy summer nights ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_coffee
