Traveling by train in Thailand?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I was looking for info on train travel within Thailand Costs? Quality? Realiability? and so on.

Is there a web site to find the info and do they travel the whole country: Bangkok to Pattaya - Bangkok to Chang Mae?? - Pattaya to Rayond.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Putts

Travel by train in Thailand is quite good.   They are not fast but they are generally on time (T.I.T.)  are clean, safe and inexpensive.  If you plan to take the train anywhere long distance  e.g. bangkok to Chang Mai try the overnight train.  The 2nd class aircon sleepers, (get a lower berth wth a window),  are very nice.  They pass through the coach frequently with beer, soft drinks etc and will serve you a hot or cold dinner and breakfast at your seat.  Overall a great way to travel if you are not in a hurry.

It's best to make reservations in advance as the trains are usually full.  You can make resevations at the main station, through an online broker (They charge a b200 fee usually)  or some travel agencies also make train reservations.  One is located on the north side of Sukhuvitt Rd just east of Asoke (near Cowboy)  Can't remeber the name but the sign out front has picture of a train on it.

Enjoy  ;)
