Taking my first trip on Oct 27th.  My work requires that I take a laptop with me.  I'd like to keep it in an in-room safe to keep it handy.  On my last trip to Amsterdam the in-room safe was 1/2 inch too narrow!  I carry an HP (full size) about 13.5 X 12 X 2.  Does the Residence Garden have safes big enough?   Also how much of a hastle is it to connece with the typical laptop built in modem?

Any info would be helpful!

PS: Plan to be at my first FLB parth on the 29th!

Safes at RG probably not large enoug (the opening that is) to take a full size laptop.

However, I've stayed there twice and they wouldn't steal anything. One other advantage of the RG is that because of its "5 minutes out of the way" location, you're less likely to be robbed.

RG has internet cafe next door if thats all you need but perhaps buy on of those laptop locks if it makes you feel batter.

Another option is to take your own safe.  Sounds odd, but check it out:  http://www.pac-safe.com/

Very small when packed, I just put my laptop in it's carry case and then the whole thing in the packsafe and attached it to pipes in the bathroom or closet.

Hi aniteowl;

The safe in RG is not big enough. As others said though, no problems with theft there. Stayed there over the last 12 months for 17 weeks, always laptop left unlockd on the desk, and never a problem.

It will be fun to break you in on your first trip, first party at FLB.  ;D ;D

I will see you there.

Cheers

Still I wouldn't worry about it. I have taken my laptop to Thailand, Philippines and Indonesia.

Even left it in a bungalow with a room full of bargirls in Phuket whilst i went on a day trip to James Bond island and the laptop and the girls were still there when I returned.

Gotta love Thailand.

Most travellers do have a suitecase with combination lock, and key lock. Use it for the lap top. Very slim chance any will try to walk out with your 'big' suitecase I would say. I use mine as a safe, for cameras and a little backup money (not too much though  ;) )
