Thailand Navigation Maps for Galaxy S Phone

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

Have just purchased a new Samsung Galaxy mini (first Android phone for myself) and I used to have the Nokia N8 OVI maps for Thailand which were excellent as far as I was conerned, never got lost.

My question is with the new phone I think Google maps are pretty crappy, anyone got any suggestions for recommened android navigation maps download for Thailand please (and preferably free). I use Navigon for Australia and New Zealand, which are good but they have nothing for Thailand.

Thanks in advance,

Kev

I'm a TomTom user for many years (PND, not as a app on a smartphone). The Tomtom maps are very good (though not perfect). I reckon Navteq maps (used by Garmin (Navignon is part of Garmin) are simular.

The Tomtom app is not cheap, but quality has its price.

There are ways to get the app for free, but in some countries that would be consider illegal (but the internet is your friend )

Try sygic, you can try it fully featured for free for 7 days. It uses Tom Tom maps I believe and works really well IMHO. If you want to pay to continue its a reasonable (I think 30 euro) to purchase a licence for Thailand. This gives you future upgrades of maps and application.

I have tried many different brand of maps on my Galaxy S3. I decided that they are all less then decent. Yes, I also tried Sygic and didn't like it either. Sygic lacks detail upcountry and I found it difficult to use. The free map from Nostra was the best of the bunch but you have to be online.

If you are serious about a Thailand map, you should buy a Garmin. The ESRI Thailand map is excellent. Avoid the Garmin S.E. Asia map. It sucks. For 3,900 baht, the cheapest model comes with the latest ESRI Thailand map and it is difficult to beat that price. If you buy a Garmin outside of Thailand the new ESRI Thailand maps won't work. They are dual mode, Thai and English. Neither of my US purchased Garmins can't use the latest dual mode map.
