Best entertainment areas in Glasgow and Edinburgh

Recommended Posts

Looks like I will be visiting Glasgow and Edinburgh in the near future.

I'm hoping that with so many folks from the UK on this board that someone can tell me were the entertainment districts are and any hotel recommendations in those areas.

Thanks

If your visit to Edinburgh is this month; it is Edinburgh Festival month. Hotel and accomadation gets very expensive, if you can actually find any vacancies. The Ladyboys of Bangkok will be in residence all month, so you could impress with your Thai language skills ! :P

The main entertainment areas are just off Prince's Street such as George Street, and also the Royal Mile (leads up to the castle), which is very touristy. Edinburgh entertainment, outside of the festival period, is quite staid, and mainly consists of Georgian style pubs and restaurants, but the "Scrotes" are very friendly in the bars, despite the stereotype characterisations.

P4P in Edinburgh although illegal, sort of gets away with it , under the Sauna house umbrella. I did not actually have need to use them, so cannot comment on prices or quality etc, but I believe it not to be in Gabor's range! :P Here is a link to an info website; - http://www.edinburghsauna.co.uk Most of them charge a 10 door/entrance fee, before any other charges. There are hetero and gay establishments, whatever takes your fancy, but not mixed.

Transport bus links are quite good, but taxis are expensive for the UK. The new and much maligned limited tram service would actually be of use to you if staying in the higher mid-range hotels to the West side such as Novatel or Marriot.( about 100 / night ). Don't bother with the tram link to the airport, it takes f'ing ages; and the airport bus is much quicker!
