Displayed prices are for multiple nights. Check the site for price per night. I see hostels starting at 200b/day and hotels from 500b/day on agoda.

Can anyone explain this??

I picked up my ticket today.  I was quoted a price of $534.70.  The travel agent told me the "actual" price was 1162.70 and that is the price reflected on the ticket.  She told me that they would bill my credit card for 1162.70 and she then handed me a check for $628.00.  Grand total is still 534.70 - but I don't understand the system.  I asked and she said something along the lines of - "the airline price is $1162.70 and the discount is from the travel company".  Doesn't make sense to me.  But, I love the price.

I booked and paid over the net for a ticket with Thai, Brisbane BKk return and paid via Visa  AUD $1292.92

yet all my e-ticket paperwork shows a total price of AUD $1662.90. Perhaps it has something to do with IATA rules on discounting??????

I went through http://www.pandaonline.com

1-888-PANDA-88

they have 4 or 5 offices (under different names) - I wnt to the one across the street from Pearlridge - P III travel after calling the toll free number and confirming.  Somteimes the web site is cheaper and sometimes calling is cheaper.  Friendly place - just weird how they do business.  They always have a big ad in the Sunday travel section - usually on the last page on the bottom.

I'm not sure why they do it that way, but last time I flew Thai air out of Los Angeles I bought my ticket through a travel agency and the ticket itself said $1500 or so, but I actually paid about $800.

Upena,

I have the same problem (its not really a problem though).  I go thru STAR TOURS which, IMHO, has the cheapest airfairs in HAWAII They always charge me the full value of the ticket and cut me a check for the balance.  I don't mind it though.  I earn mileage on my credit card.  I noticed you are arriving in BKK at 10:45 PM on the 16th.  Are you by chance flying JAL #71?  I will be aboard with you if you do.

used Star once...never again.  the lady (Chris??) was a real pain in the ass.  we flew to BKK in Dec and didnt have a confirmed return - no problem for me and my buddy - but she didnt want to issue to tickets to us.  when we sat on her desk and refused to leave without the tickets, she finally relented.  she also told us that the reason we couldnt get a return was that it was "golden week" in japan - which was a flat out lie.  she was also very difficult to contact on the phone and got a bazillion calls while dealing with us.  i got my ticket through panda for a decent rate and finally get to say....I am going to Bangkok TOMORROW!!

Dont know why they did that as it was the long way round.

In the UK you will sometimes notice on the ticket that the prices is something like £750-£950 which is the standard listed IATA fare LHR-BKK-LHR but Consolidators will sell this ticket to agents at say £400 for the Agent to sell it on at anything over say £450.

I suspect it may well have been a slight scam for the agency trying to improver their figures or even may have been that their consolidator has specified that they must sell the ticket at the stated ticket price even though their prices was far far lower.
