Is Dubai Safe ?

Recommended Posts

I was considering travelling with Emirates this May but will Dubai be safe enough if/when war breaks out as it's fairly close to Iraq . I'm worried that my flight may be cancelled meaning I might lose my money as most travel insurances don't cover acts of war . Did anyone travel via Dubai during the last Gulf war ?

Turbo,

I think given the FCO advice that it would be prudent to look for a European or Asian airline for your trip.

Whilst the advice doesn't appear to specifically refer to the UAE the general area seems to be designated no-go.

I have already been notified that my trip with EVA in May has had the flight time extended by 30 minutes - I assume to enable the aircraft to take a more northerly route to avoid the area.

Regards,

Tom

Tom, when are you flying out in May ??  I have not been able yet to book my flight though I understand with Evergreen Deluxe I can change my flight time once for free within a certain time limit. If so I think I will book my Evergreen Deluxe flight very soon now if I know I can change to a later date if necessary.  Point is we may be going out at a similar time and I am looking for a skivvy to help carry my luggage ..  eh sorry I mean friend for company on the flight.

Ray,

I am flying on 1 May from MAN via LHR (seat 27G) then staying in BKK and Sukhothai for about 6/7 days before heading to Pattaya.

My mother and niece are on the same flight although they are travelling from EDI - you could provide good company for my mum on the flight though. ;)

I am staying in the Sabai Inn on Soi 2 (Room 201) (the women are in the Dusit) so if you are around leave a message and we can hook up for that meal at Cabbages and Condoms!

Regards,

Tom

p.s.  Don't forget to join the Evergreen Club and I'll bring the paperwork so you can transfer your airmiles to me! :D

Hi Tom ,

Thanks for the advice . With the offer I've got now on the BA flight I'll probably be travelling with them instead of emirates . It looks like we'll probably be in Pattaya at the same time so I'll have to meet up with you & buy you a beer for all the helpful advice you've given me so far . I'll keep in touch & we can arrange a meeting somewhere .

Cheers ,

               Derek
