Hi Daveman

I flew with SAS from Copenhagen to Bkk in may last year. There is good and bad to say. The plane was new, but I can't remember the type, but they are not as big as a B747. The staff is in my opinion not very friendly. High in seniority (old bags) and more interested to go and get some sleep than to give some service to their passangers. On my return trip I sat together with a Norvegian guy and swapped war stories and had a few drinks. Somehow we violated some rule of X drinks in X time, so they would not serve anymore for us. We where not even close to be drunk and behaved like adults having a conversation and we did fetch the drinks ourselfes behind the curtain. Kindergarden wardens.

Food is ok and at least from Copenhagen they have a flight leaving CPH 22.40 and arriving in BKK 14.30 which is better than the Thai option from CPH which leaves 14.40 and land in BKK about 06.00. At least it's better for a little sleep.

In general I am not impressed and try to avoid SAS when it's possible.

But to be fair. The flight was on time and I had a good sleep, but I think many other companies do better.

Best wishes

Thaidane

Daveman,

It's a while since I flew with SAS so can't really comment on their current service.  However, they have been pretty deep in the financial shit for the last 18 months with no end in sight to their woes (their current loadfactor is less than 65%).  If there was anything to happen that affected air travel (Gulf War, oil prices, terrorist activity etc) I don't think many would be surprised to see them go the way of Swissair and Sabena.

Regards,

Tom

You can quite often get some good deals for Business class with them. Have to agree about the service staff tho', employed from the retirement villa I reckon ! :P

I could not stop laughing and write this because at the same moment I read this thread there was a story in the news, where a Norvegian shipowner said that one of SAS's major problems is their old stewardesses. And that had really pissed of both staff and management in SAS. I also agree with Cheshire Tom. SAS are in very big financial problems due to bad management and some very severe structurel problems and I too guess they will go the SAbena/swissair way.

Sorry I could not help writing this

Please don't take this as absolute gospel for all cases (ie don't blame me :-*) however I normally only work to an hour before departure from Manchester. The flights for me are normally to London or near Europe (Copenhagen in my SAS experiences) and as such seem to work on much shorter check-ins. Not many pax having luggage etc.

Please note incredible willpower refraining from making the obvious comments as to the reason for wanting to make a late check-in. ::) ;D

hi Daveman!

I'm from Norway so I have used Scandinavian Airlines quite a bit. I've had both positive and negative experiences with this airline.

I prefer to fly BRITISH AIRWAYS even though I have to fly via Heathrow. British Airways is definitely my favourite airline. Much better service and they fly to many more cities worldwide.

I don`t understand why anyone would choose to fly British Airways unless the company are paying for it.

In economy thai are miles better and slightly cheaper.

If its econ+ then I hear very good things about eva.

and if it`s business class and you`re paying yourself then why pay over £2000 to fly BA when you can fly China for about £800 and not have to put up with BA`s snotty as hell (not to mention ugly) cabin crew.
