White Massage Girls In LOS?

On one of my very first trips to LOS I went to a soapy in Bangkok (can't remember the name) and in addition to the 100 or so Thai girls in the viewing room there were about half a dozen white girls. They were sitting together in a corner, quite separately from the rest, but were clearly there for the same reason, trying to attract my attention like the others. This must have been  around 1990, long before many Russian and East European girls began working in Thailand, and I've never seen anything similar since. Anyone have any ideas what might have been going on?

There were eastern European girls in Thailand as early as the mid 80's

A Lot of them came from Vung Tau in Vietnam when the Huge Russian compound there got the heave Ho.
