interviewing cross-dressers

Recommended Posts

My student daughter, studying theatre for decree course, has chosen for her final year to do a thesis on cross-dressers in entertainment, Danny Larue, Hinge & Bracket etc.

Fing is, we are coming to Pattaya 31 Oct and she wants me to take her to Simons- Tiffanys, with a view to talk to the performers about their ideas and thoughts about what they do. I have little knowledge of these places exept 1 visit to Simons, with 2 ladies I might add. so do you think these lads will be O.k about this? We do not want to offend anyone. Does anyone have more of an insite to these performers, any ideas what to ask and what to avoid ? ( Why couldn't she do Dickens )    :(

Thanx Chaps

Not that I'm particularly knowledgeable, but my thoughts are..

1) Your biggest requirement will be a translator since you want to get in-depth information.

2) You'll need to pay the katoey some amount (actually treating everyone to a meal might be a nice touch).

3) You might also want to a group interview with something like 3 katoeys, taping the discussion with your daughter acting as the moderator.

Thanks for your advise Tom, Stevens.

I will have a translator, my Thai lady friend, thats why I am taking my daughter to Pattaya Baz, my butterfly days there are over- well on hold shall we say.

Tom I called them Lads for want of a better word, but now I have Katoey (what is that exactly) I shall avoid the term again.  It is Lucys first trip to LOS, she can't wait to go, so the e-mail bit may be usefull when she is back home, but not as enjoyable as dooooing it.

I like the meal idea, my daughter being a performer herself, will click with them I'm sure, we have a tape recorder, camera etc, we shall see how things go.

You have to admit though, going to Pattaya for your daughters education! What a damn fine gesture. Things you do for your kids eh?  :(

Cheers !!!

Nidnoy,

I meant e-mailing them the question as to whether you could interview them and explain your situation.  It might be better to let them know in advance what your situation is rather than maybe appearing to be just a couple of curious holidaymakers.

Regards,

Tom

Right Tom, got the picture.  It would be a good idea to e-mail ahead of our arrival.

Unfortunately I am one of these non IT people, and would have absolutely no idea of how to get their e-mail address, my teenage son is out for the night, he is the kiddie in that department, perhaps he can put me straight, but I definately will do that if possible.

Thanx mate  :(

Nidnohham,

I think I have read somewhere that Katoey is slightly derogatory in the Thai language.  You might want to check this with your Thai ladyfriend, she may have a more polite word.

Cheers.

nidnoyham- Why don't you just call them ladies until you learn their names? God knows most of them put enough effort into trying to make themselves look like women... You'll know and they'll know it's not true, but what can it hurt? The girls who call out to me, "Hey sexy man...hansum man..." well, those girls and I know that's not true, but they're not gonna get me to stop in for a drink by being truthful.

LEADBELLY/ PR

Thanks for the advise about addressing the Ladies, discretion is my middle name, and I would have checked with my lady friend about the meaning of that word before using it. And we are all Hansum men in Pattaya- arn't we ??

I still have a problem trying to follow Cheshire Toms advise to e-mail before we go. does anyone have e-mail addresses for such places as Simons ? I can try to call ladyfriends sister in Pattaya, perhaps it will be in PATTAYA NEWS  or something, well Iv'e got 2 weeks, anyone there 31oct-02nov ? My daughter and her new Thai friends will probably shoot off to Exite for a night, its a bit noisy for an old codger like me, I'll just have to find something else to do for a few hours  :(

Cheers !!

Nidnoy,

I'm sorry I don't have any info on Simon (or even know if it still exists) but the e-mail contact for alcazar is:

pr_alcazar@email.com

Hope this is of some use.

Regards,

Tom

Thanks Tom for the e-mail address and the advise about staring.  Thing is no one knows when they are doing it ! I remeber a work mate being interviewd for a post by a male colleuge and a girl from Personnel, the girl had to leave the room for a phone call, while she was gone the co-interviewer leant across the desk and said" Your doing very well so far, but can you stop staring at her tits ?" when she came back in it was even harder to conciously ignore them

Cheers!

  • 2 weeks later...

Cheshire Tom.

Have contacted Alcazar via your e-mail address-thanks for that. Lucy has appointment at P.R office 31Oct with regarding interviewing the performers.

Oh yes have asked a Thai person the meaning of the word Katoey, and after thinking for a while came up with Poofter, so that is not a word we will be using

Thanks again mate  :(

This is a windup in my opinion.  He's going to Pattaya with his daughter to do a thesis on Katoeys.

Yeah right.

I'm going to Pattaya to do a thesis on the lifecycle of a Danish Hamburgers bun.

(Apologies if it is genuine).

Sorry, Somebody from the U N has already done that. It only took him sixteen years and four million Dollars. This would be fantastic value if it were ever published, but it might make a profit. 8) 8) 8)

Our visit to LOS was a great success.

Lucy got VIP treatmenr at Alkazar, use of the PR office for interview, cold drinks and an interpreter, 2 ladies gave their views on what they do and why, they posed for photos with Lucy, who had only been in the country for 11 hours and was a bit aprehensive at first. She also recieved a folder containing a programme, history of the company and other information, she was very impressed by the whole thing.

A thank you to Cheshire Tom for the e-mail idea and I was on my guard not to stare, but 1 of them was 'king gorgeous- sorry chaps but she was ! Reminded of a saying an old sailor I used to work with would quote to the new lads- " Its a round peg for a round hole, if you were meant to fuck women, you would have a dick the shape of a frying pan"

Lucy of course loved LOS went to a Festival and funeral on the same day at the GF village, was the centre of attraction with her pink hair and loved it. She was very immpressed by the FLB bar, her favourite in Pattaya, thinks the Ugly Brothers rule as musicians, pity she didnt bring her trumpet !

Thank you to all of you who gave us advise. Back in February for a few birthday celebrations  :(
