Can you help?

In your profile you should see:

"Personalized Picture:

Select one or specify a web path (ex: http://www.mypage.com/mypic.gif) to your own image. Please note that your image must be gif or jpg and that it will be resized."

'I have my own picture'  with a tick box, in that space after the tick box you put the web address (URL) where the picture is.

eg. select the tick box and paste http://www.freelancerbar.com/images/flblogosm.gif

in it's place. Then, when you've mastered that, try your own URL image. You can use any address.

If you have one in your pic folder, point it to that.

Thanks Cess,

But after many failed attempts I still haven't quite got there.

Ok I can paste the freelancer logo..... but my picture is presently in a folder in my documents. How do I convert that into a http/ www. etc to allow me to load it onto my profile.

I had given up for a while but have decided to make a fresh attempt.

thanks again

Ok Antbear,

I'll have a go at this.

First let me get it clear, you have a picture that you want to upload to the gallery and then use that for an avatar. Right so far??

Ok, in that case do as follows:

Click on the 'Gallery' link near the top of the page.

step15.jpg

Enter your user name and password and then click on the 'Login' button.

step2.jpg

Click on the 'Upload' button.

step3.jpg

Click on the Browse button and go to the folder that contains your picture. Double click on it and the path to your picture is entered in the File#1 box.

Then enter any details you want in the title and description boxes. (This is optional).

You can upload 5 pictures at a time from this page.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the 'I agree with the rules' button.

step4.jpg

A pop up message box will appear and state that your pictures were successfully uploaded. (or not as the case may be!).

step8.jpg

Your pictures should (hopefully) have been uploaded and placed in a folder in the gallery under your user name (Antbear). If you like, you can go to that folder and check them out.

You can get the path of this picture by right clicking on the picture and going to properties as below...

step9.jpg

To use that picture as an avatar, you have to go back to the page with the menu at the top, but this time click on 'profile'.

step15.jpg

Scroll down the page until you get to 'I have my own pic:'

step6.jpg

Click on the little checkbox and enter the path of the picture and then click the 'Change Profile' button at the bottom of the page.

Voila!! That's all you have to do! If you have followed the instruction properly, then you should have your pictures uploaded and be able to use them as avatars too. Just be careful about the size!

Thanks for all your help guys, I really appreciate.

I am now in the process of printing your advice and when I have time and space, I will give it a lash. I love Code Monkey's caption, I am a brown skin officienado par excellence myself. But I have to say that this caption is erotic maak.

Khawp khun maak khrap pee.

Hey Code Monkey,

How did you grab the sceen pics....thanks

Sprinter

Hi Sprinter,

Press Ctrl & Print Scrn to grab the whole screen or Alt & Print Scrn to grab the active window and paste into either Word, Photo Editor or IrfanView or pretty much anything you want to. You can then crop, resize, etc to suit.

If you have money to burn, you can always buy software like GrabIt which does a similar thing. I prefer to spend my money in Thailand!

  • 3 weeks later...

Thanks again guys,

I haven't been 100% successsful yet. I have uploaded my picture but when I try to open my profile I get the following message

Can't open directory (/var/www/html/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBBImages/avatars)! Please inform the administrator of this forum that the $facesdir setting must be fixed immediately.

Now what does all that mean, except to pass it on to Pete.

thanks again

No luck guys, as I said I have no problem up loading pics now but I just can't get them into my profile even though I followed your good advice word for word. That bloody smurf still appears.

Any more ideas as to how I can fix the problem?
