Deleting Temporary Internet Files in windowa XP

Recommended Posts

I am a relatively new user of XP. To delete Tempory Internet files I have been opening tools, Internet options, then in the temporary internet section clicking 'Delete Files" This allows me to delete the files but also gives me the option to "Delete all offline content" by ticking a box. What am I going to delete by ticking the box. The obvious answer is all off line files but could someone enlighten me how disasterous this could be.

The only reason I ask is that I delete Temp Internet files before running virus checker and I still see files that I thought I had deleted being checked.

Thanks

John

select the Delete all offline content check box if you want to delete all Web page content that you have made available offline. basically clears the cache and deletes cookies.

In IE there is a seperate option to delete the cookies (same location, tools, internet options and then "delete cookies", but upena is right, he temp internet files are all images, icons,...that where saved on your pc to make a later visit to the site faster. you can not do any harm by doing this, if you delete the cookies however, and you had chosen to remember your login data at the pattayatalk.com/forums site, you will have to enter the login data again on your next visit as it is stored in form of cookies.

Worked a treat, cleaned out about 1.6 gig of rubbish, took about 8 mins to delete them and halved virus checking run time...Thanks

As well as deleting all temporary internet files on a regular basis, I also clean out at least once a week any cookies that may have been set. I keep those that I really want - such as the one set by this board.
