  1. I'm booked, via Internet, in November. The E-Mail confirmation of my booking says No deposit required. Cash preferred. Please settle your account every 7 days. Jim
  2. Is that Steve? I'm planning a trip in November as well. I was thinking about trying Residence Gardens this time. Didn't occur to me that places might be fully booked this early. I'd better get a move on and try to get a reservation. See You Jim
  3. I've just booked a standard room in Flipper House from 12th. November. Their Deluxe rooms and suites were fully-booked. I have 'one big bed'. I stayed in Flipper Lodge last year in a room with twin beds. I was quite happy to share one of the beds with my overnight companion. Seemed a bit more friendly than having separate beds!. But anyway, I don't think it would have been possible to move the two together. The head-boards and table were all one unit. Jim
  4. Gizmo, If you study previous postings you will find recommendations for dozens (maybe hundreds!) of bars and GoGo's, thereby proving the point that different people have different tastes and preferences. In Pattaya, within a couple of days, you will already have sampled many of these and begun to get a feeling for which ones YOU like best. Having said this, the bars most frequented by boardies seem to be Cherry Bar and FLB, so I would certainly suggest trying these and seeing if you can meet up with some of the other board members.
  5. Yes, the International Spot Rate is 71.5, as indicated by various currency-conversion sites. But the exchange rate in the high-street travel agencies and Post-Office is a lot lower. On various Internet sites I have checked, the best I could see was just over 68 which is a lot less than 71.5. The Bangkok Bank Internet site shows a fraction over 70 Baht to the £. Does this mean that it is best waiting to change Sterling in Thailand rather than in the UK?. Better still, does anyone know where I can actually get this 71.5 rate??
  6. As far as I can gather, the problem lies with the machines used to scan or X-ray hand luggage. With the new regulations, the current equipment can't cope with hand-luggage larger than the new sizes. Therefore, expect all airlines to be very strict about these sizes. This applies if flying from the UK. There seem to be moves afoot to extend this over the whole of the E.U. At present, until these machines are replaced, it seems as though this limitation will last for quite a long time. Does anyone know where I can buy a flight bag as small as this? Scottie
  7. Thanks for all the input. Although flights ex-Manchester are obviously cheaper, it costs me something to actually get from Edinburgh to Manchester, and additionally it adds quite a lot to the travelling times which I'm trying to avoid. My total travelling time from my house to arrival at hotel in Pattaya is about 22 hours. I would rather pay a bit extra than take 2 or 3 hours longer. Flying from Glasgow takes longer because I am dependent on public transport, and it's a lot easier and faster for me to get to Edinburgh airport rather than Glasgow. Nevertheless, I will study all of these suggestions very carefully before planning any subsequent trips. Thanks again Scottie
  8. I have just booked my flight from Edonburgh to Bangkok for £598. This is with KLM via Amsterdam with a stopover of 1 and a half hours in Amsterdam. There are no direct flights from Edinburgh, and the other airlines which operated via London, Copenhagen, Paris, Etc., Etc. all had far longer stopover times although some were a little cheaper. This was certainly the best deal I could find combining reasonable cost with minimum flight times.
