  1. I know, (knew), a minibus driver who claimed he could do the Victory Monument to Pattaya run in one hour and 10 minutes. RIP.
  2. Suspect a taxi from Pattaya to Hua Hin would be in excess of 3,000 baht.
  3. Thanks Jacko for your reply although a bit late for me. I had emailed them two years ago about an incident and received a prompt reply then, but I emailed the same address again and it was returned undelivered. However in the absence of replies here I managed to find a telephone number and they did confirm a 7 am departure. Arrived Suvarnabhumi at 08:40. For those contemplating using this method of transport into Bangkok this is a very good bus service with comfortable seating. At the airport straight to their desk at ground floor and booked a 5pm departure back to Jomtien, then down one more floor to the airport rail link where a train was just arriving, 30 minutes to Phaya Tai station at the end of the route, and transfer to BTS Skytrain and 10 minutes to Sukhumvit Road Ploenchit station. Airport link and Skytrain very full at that time but this route is still the best way to get from Jomtien to central Bangkok.
  4. Website has problem. Need to know definitively what time is first bus to airport from Jomtien. Travelling Tuesday (tomorrow).
  5. Thanks Tom. Will be travelling at morning rush hour and don't want to be late so I thought I'd avoid most of Sukhumvit. Udom Suk looks best for me.
  6. What is generally considered to be the best bus stop to connect from a Pattaya Nua bus to the Skytrain now? I have previously got off at On Nut but believe there is a stop earlier now that the Skytrain line has been extended. Usually i now go the airport route but this next time I want to catch the bus from Pattaya Nua. Will have no luggage.
  7. This gas station has been scamming customers for years and it's been well documented in this and other forums. Usually the attendant not clearing the previous sale and charging extra to the customer. I'm surprised that MM didn't realise this and wasn't more aware. Actually I'm amazed that the gas station proprietor is still allowing his staff to scam, or is he in on it?
  8. I gave up in the end but couldn't cancel the log in attempt. I was using Firefox so tried IE to log in and log out again.....couldn't get the homepage! Lucky I've only got a few bob in there. (For the septics, that means a few baht).
  9. Tried to log in about 5 minutes ago. Just got the email thanking me for logging in, but their website is still thinking about letting me in...WTF!
  10. ........and as I was coming in from BKK last evening I looked in at Heaven from the bus window and the place was being gutted. Maybe improvement to come.
  11. I have previously been unable to fly on a paid Air Asia ticket. On their website there is a facility to reclaim the airport taxes and this I have done on a couple of occasions. You should be able to do the same with your airline but the mechanics of how you achieve the refund will depend on the individual airline. I believe the airline is duty bound to refund the airport tax which they will not have paid already. Good luck.
  12. FFS I wish I'd never started this topic. For sure, I won't start another. That's just about me done with Pattaya Talk and the other forums too. There's some seriously sad people on here. Why don't you just take the warning at face value and get on with your lives?
  13. No. I don't think you do.I don't know him. Friend of David's, but not one of the Timbo group I think.
  14. I have been asked by a friend to put out a warning to bicyclists. Apparently a friend of his was cycling on his own in the Huay Yai area a couple of days ago about 8 am when some Thai guys on two motorbikes stopped him and threatened his life (not sure how) then stole his expensive (80,000 baht) bicycle. He went to the police who told him that it was the second similar occurence recently. The men are believed to be on drugs and will dismantle the bikes and sell the parts for spares. I wonder how the police know this. Just a heads up for cyclists doing a solo ride in that area especially if you have an expensive bicycle.
  15. Haha!! You didn't read the article on new arrivals within 30 days of the election, which state that "non-Thai nationals who arrive in Thailand within 30 days of the bar closures will be arrested if found drinking in the month of June" I believe this law was passed to stop non-Thais delaying their holidays. Unlucky.
  16. Do all Thai trains only have squat toilets?
  17. This would seem to be the best option, unless you live near the Airport Bus terminal in Jomtien. If so, bus to airport, airport link train to Phaya Thai, then taxi to DM might be better.
  18. This is what I see in that opening post on Firefox.
  19. Shockwave Flash is enabled......???????!!!!!!!!!!
  20. Thanks for the suggestion Evil but I tried that and Shockwave Flash is up to date. I viewed Gabor's opening post on his thread "Songkran VDO-what I witnessed" in IE, and it's an embedded video on which you just have to click on the arrow in the centre of the screen in order to play it. However, that video does not show at all in my Firefox screen. Puzzling!
  21. Yeah, I could use IE but my preferred browser is Firefox. I'd just like to know how to get things working in Firefox. It bugs me when something doesn't work as it should. And maybe I've got too much time on my hands so I WILL do it eventually!
  22. It seems that when somebody starts a thread and posts a link to a video or photo(s), I can't see that link. This appears to be only links in the original first post. I can see other members' subsequent posts commenting on the video/photo(s), so I assume that the link is there and other members can see it, but there is no link on my PC. Do I need to change a setting? If it helps, I am running Windows 7 and browsing with Firefox 11 (although I had the same problem on previous versions of Firefox).......Oh! that just made me think that it was Firefox which caused the problem so I just thought that I'd see if I can view the links using Internet Explorer and voila! I clicked on Gabor's thread "Songkran VDO-what I witnessed" and it was there in all it's glory for me to view in IE. Right clicking on the video showed me that I was viewing it via Adobe Flash Player 11.2.202.233. Is Adobe Flash Player not compatible with Firefox? I doubt that. So would some kind person explain to me how I can get it to work. Regards.
  23. This afternoon I was in a good mood. I had lunch and walked cheerfully to Beach Road in Jomtien where I hailed a bahtbus to take me to Pattaya. I was going to do a bit of shopping in Central Shopping Mall. I've lived in Jomtien for 4 years and enjoy life here but one of the things that seems to get me annoyed is the Russians who sit "side-saddle" on the bahtbuses taking the space of two people and not seeming to care or understand that they need to make space for other passengers. Maybe this has been bugging me for too long. It happens so often. The bahtbus stopped and I got onto the step at the back where I was faced with three large ladies on the left and three large ladies on the right. I just knew they were Russians. The right hand side was the cool side with the sun being on the left, so I moved toward the right hand side. No movement from the ladies, so I picked my spot and sat down on the knee of the first lady who had her fat arse on the end and had her legs pointed toward the middle. Just as my backside touched her knees she moved grudgingly and I managed to secure my place on the bench. As the bahtbus proceeded along, the driver stopped for other passengers. As the first one got on I pushed myself against this fat bitch to my left who was still taking up far more room than she was entitled to, and made a small bit of room to my right. The new passenger declined my offer of a seat and stood on the rear step. Other passengers got on further down the road and not one of the ladies made any attempt to move. They sat there oblivious of the now 4 passengers standing on the step. The space to the right of me was a bit small for a normal sized human being. I sat there thinking how ignorant these ladies were and I was probably feeling annoyed. Nothing much happened then until we got to Pattaya, and the ladies alighted near Royal Garden. I went into the supermarket in the basement of Central and was buying some fruit. I had to stand behind another customer who was being served while I waited to have my various fruits weighed and priced, when out of the corner of my eye I saw an elderly guy pushing a trolley and I stepped back to let him through. The first customer was leaving the weigh and price desk and I stepped forward as the man pushing the trolley had stopped. Just as I put my basket on the counter the guy with the trolley leant forward over his trolley and handed some grapes to the cashier. I hadn't realised it but the Russian ladies must have wound me up. I snapped at him " Cheeky fucker!" and he replied in the most refined English accent " I beg your pardon? Please mind your language" I replied that my language might have been offensive to him but he deserved it. Actually he told the cashier to serve me first and the cashier was embarrassed and tried to explain things away in that lovely Thai way. He was probably a very nice guy and didn't deserve to be sworn at. I got my fruit weighed and priced, and without another word left the counter. I know it was a misunderstanding but I later realised how much these Russians are starting to get to me. If you were that English guy at the fruit counter, I now apologise for my language, but maybe you now realise why it happened. To the Russians I'll now swear at you....learn some fucking manners!
  24. Now if you'd said "that sucks"........
  25. Don't forget you'll need a visa.
