  1. Try Silver Sand Villa (www.silversandvilla.com). Conveniently located near to soi 7 on Beach Road. You should be able to get a room there for just under 1000 a night especially in the older blocks. 2 big swimming pools. Friends of mine have stayed there recently and liked it. I used to use it three to four years ago before relocating here.
  2. Their website only takes Visa cards so I phoned their office, confirmed the price, and went to Bangkok with the cash. The price in their office was marginally less than on their website for some reason. Very efficient lady in the office. I was a little concerned because I need to fly out of UK to Africa the next morning, and the connection time in Mumbai is only 1hr. 20mins. If I were to miss the connection in Mumbai I would be unable to catch the charter flight next day and be stuck in London, but she put my mind at rest saying that they were rarely late. I have checked actual arrival and departure times on www.flightstats.com over the last three days, and she's right. She said that depending on the number of travellers connecting, they would hold the next flight for a while if the first leg was late. I'd take that as possible but not probable! On other websites and forums they get a good rating on the BOM-LHR leg which uses 777s, but apparently not so good on the BOM-BKK leg which uses 737s. Food supposed to be excellent.
  3. Jet Airways BKK-BOM-LHR, special offer on right now. I bought three tickets yesterday for this route. Good connection times. Cost 22,135 baht return.
  4. Just done that test. Firstly it took ages for Speedtest to load, then again ages for the first test to complete. I list the results here. 1) To Bangkok....Download 810kbps. Upload 128kbps. 2) To UK............Download 139 kbps Upload 130 kbps 3) To US............Download 133 kbps Upload 176 kbps. I then tried Bangkok again and got Download 253, Upload 129. My feelings are now that TOT is the problem. Would I be correct in that assumption? If so, anything I can do? Any constructive comments please from anyone. As stated before I'm running Mozilla Firefox and have TOT ADSL 1024 kbps service. When I did the tests I had no other programs running on my laptop.
  5. I'm sure I have the same package as you, but it's surely 1.0 mbps. That's what it says at the bottom of my screen.
  6. Short...I've been waiting for ever for the photo on your last post, (which hasn't been resized yet) to download. Maybe that has something to do with the speed. I opened up the website again on another tab whilst the photo was downloading and posted this topic. when I went back to the photo it still hadn't downloaded after maybe 10 minutes. However, regardless of that, the site seems slow compared to other websites, and the speed I used to get here. I'm pretty sure that there's no clutter on my system as I clean it and run AVG, AdAware, Tune Up Utilities and Malwarebyte scans very regularly. I am running Mozilla firefox and my ToT ADSL connection is 1024 kpbs.
  7. For maybe a week I've been having problems with the speed of this forum. Please tell me it's not ToT or my laptop. Other websites seem to load much quicker. MM?
  8. Here's another couple...
  9. Doubt if he'll know about the "Dark Side"but why not print off the map and show him?
  10. Because I don't believe that other forums are allowed to be mentioned on here. As for your language. That's not needed here either. Take it somewhere else. Anyway here it is...
  11. If you do a Google search, there's a good map showing BP2 and all the other bars on the Dark Side, on a link on another forum. A little work brings dividends.
  12. I've just remembered that the pork sausages and the bacon are from Pakistan, and the beef sausages are made just off the coast in Nicaragua. Funny what this Beer Chang makes you remember!
  13. The sausage may well be made locally, but usually a British run establishment will have a British owner/manager and he will have sampled and selected the best. Most British type sausages here are as good, if not better, than home. Not sure about where the bacon's from, but if the chef's a Thai make sure they know to cook it well "suk suk". Streaky or back bacon is very good here. You should have no prob finding a good breakfast.
  14. Lots of places. Where are you located?
  15. I'll say it if nobody else will. Copied and pasted directly from another forum. Why?
  16. If you had an International Driving Licence as well as your National Driving Licence, you don't have to pass the practical driving test, just the brake, colour, and distance tests. On the peripheral vision test I could see the red and green but for the life of me I couldn't see the yellow. When the lady said "say colour" and I couldn't see anything, I knew it couldn't have been red or green, so I just said Yellow and I passed. I asked for both the car and bike licences and although my British licence doesn't allow me to drive a bike, and I have only driven an automatic once in my life, and that was 20 years ago, they gave me both licences. They just can't read English. It's so easy here. Buddha Bless Them!
  17. I believe that if you're flying with the same carrier on both legs and the first leg is late, the carrier will be responsible for getting you to your destination on the next available seat presumably on their own aircraft or possibly a partner airline. Never happened to me but has always been at the back of my mind.
  18. March 2007 I was coming to Thailand from West Africa. To fly my normal route via UK was expensive at that time. I had Emirates miles accrued and one of their partners is South African Airways. I called Emirates Skywards office in Manchester and asked for a return flight from Dakar, Senegal, to Johannesburg with SAA. They arranged it all. I had to pay the airport tax only. From Johannesburg I flew Emirates to Bangkok. The only problem I had was that SAA didn't issue e-tickets at the time and I had a couple of weeks wondering if my tickets were going to make it in the post from Manchester to Gambia, where the post is unreliable to say the least. However, all turned out well. So, yes, it's easy enough to do. Contact KLM's airmiles admin office. Good luck.
  19. Good advice, Emil. But try not to give too many secrets away! To the OP...Arrive Jade 13:45/14:00 before the BBQ starts and before too many of the girls start disappearing into the rooms. Funny, I haven't been there for a couple of months, must try again soon. Good place.
  20. Immigration is on Soi 5,Jomtien, not soi 6, Emil. I think you've been spending too much time at Yellow House which is on soi 6. The service there blows your mind. LOL.
  21. Cheap and cheerful to be sure. I bought one from Tesco 3 months ago and have been relatively pleased with it. I was given the choice of one at 5150 baht and one at around 3800 baht. When I enquired as to what the difference was, I was told to sit on them. The more expensive had better springing, so that is the one I chose. Since I bought it I have had two small problems. First with the brakes...apparently it was fitted with plastic parts which weren't up to standard. I had them replaced at a cost of 500 baht at a shop on Thepprasit Rd. Secondly I had a problem with a clicking sound on changing down from say 4th to 3rd. I had to go down to 2nd then back up to 3rd to eliminate the sound. Yesterday I took it to another shop on Thepprasit Rd. and they changed the chain at a cost of 350 baht. That seems to have fixed it. Another problem with these cheap bikes is that they are very prone to rust and it's a good idea to spray with WD40 or similar every now and again. Perhaps the best option would be to buy from one of the shops halfway along Thepprasit Rd., as they specialise, and would presumably rectify any small problems such as I had. You would pay more there but get better quality. I think I would have got no joy if I took it back to Tesco. Same would apply at Big C and other similar stores.
  22. I also had a pepperoni pizza yesterday afternoon. I aked for suk suk, and that was acknowledged, but when it came it was soft soft. Still, it tasted good and went down well the draught Heineken. Recommendation...ask barstaff to convey cooking instructions to kitchen please.
  23. The best way is definitely to open a Thai bank account and to wire the money to it. If the amount you're wiring is over 50,000 USD get the telephone number of the bank's Treasury Department in Bangkok. When you are about to send the money, call them and you should be able to negotiate a better exchange rate than the displayed rate shown on their website. They will offer you a rate, but always ask them for a little more. You'll find that they will negotiate. Also important is to specify, when filling in the transaction form at your home bank, thet the money is to be used for condominium purchase, and when you arrive, go to your Thai bank and ask them for a Foreign Exchange Transaction form. You'll need this when you go to the Land Office to complete your purchase.
  24. Priceless. Thank You.
