  1. You forgot to state if that is a bargain?
  2. The winner is from the World Weekly News... the late departed, I'm sorry to say. Three words for you: Snopes dot com
  3. "The" writer? Of "the" awards? Inquiring minds and so on....
  4. Nah, it goes to prove that someone can collect a bunch of urban legends and put them together under an "everyone knows" intro. This is all funny, but totally made up.
  5. Banks are very, VERY close to each other, but all of these are useful: Siam Commercial https://www.scbbusiness.com/exchange/bk-txtexchange.htm Kasikorn Bank http://kasikornbank.com/GlobalHome/EN/misc.../rate/rate.html Bangkok Bank http://www.bangkokbank.com/Bangkok+Bank/We...es/FX+Rates.htm
  6. Fair enough, everyone needs an obsession, heh. They both go up and down, in the world and against each other. I've never grasped how people are proud of their currency anyhow, it's like being proud of your ancestors to me. Like you, I'd sell my countries' currency in a flash to make a penny. When I carry, it's usually US dollars simply because they change the easiest. A long time ago I used to carry little bits of gold when I went up-country for the same reason. Money is just for counting. The best deal I can get, that's the one I'll take. I'm not anti-nationalist, but on currencies, yeah I am.
  7. bigger the better bigskill, even $500 if you think you can spend that. I wouldn't bring anything under $100.
  8. That is an excellent price right now. Never say "never" but there really are only two chances of beating that price - fat and slim.
  9. Skylar you can't SPEND any of them in Thailand. The OP wanted to know what to carry to Thailand to enjoy himself, eat, get out of the cold at night, etc. Or are you suggesting he should first buy pounds and then buy baht with it and get screwed by the banks twice?
  10. You are talking about rural branches of banks on the other side of the world from North America. How much do you think they value Canadian dollars? Think carefully before maxxing yourself out with anything but US dollars, UK pounds or euro.
  11. I want to specifically and enthusiastically second and ditto what Eneukman (Alan) wrote immediately above. Do not EVER mix up with "he did it" with "that's the way it's done". You can get lucky, you can get screwed. That's why I LOVE this place and hate it when anyone tries to start suggesting better regulations.
  12. In the first place, a tourist visa has to be obtained abroad. That 30-day thingmy you get at the airport is NOT a visa. In the second, just because Person A does something in Thailand does not mean Persons B-Z can replicate that. The RULES are explicit that you have to have a visa. Now: People do get around that, that is exactly what "This is Thailand" means. It doesn't mean you can, or I can or anyone can. And finally, if you DO get a visa, you may find you're screwed anyhow, because of that leeway that officials have. Some people do it without a non-immigrant visa, some people can't do it WITH such a visa (usually because they are idiots in some obvious way but that's another thread). TiT. This is Thailand.
  13. To be clear, I'm not running down the Denver honorary consul in any manner. I hope nobody thought I was. But these people have their "zones" and have to stay in them. Sounds like you got excellent service, and good on the Denver consul for that. I completely disagree with your conclusion, though. People should get visas before entering Thailand if they hope to stay here.
  14. That's because Denver is an honorary consul and not run by the Thai government. These guys are very restricted on what they can do or they lose their very precious, very valuable "honorary consul" title. The Denver guy is definitely not going to hand out visas to those outside his own zone. "Real" Thai consulates can serve anyone, however. That said, it is useful information for others to know you used the Denver guy.
  15. Yep, I agree that the OP stated that IN HIS OPINION he got a decent price. He refused to tell you what it was, over and over AND OVER and told you why he refused over and over AND OVER. You and Emil have told us this pair of obvious facts which the OP has restated over and over AND OVER -- well, over and over AND OVER. He isn't going to tell you what that price was. And in any case, he is incapable of deciding if the price is decent to you. He got a decent price and that is indisputable. What you think of it is up to you. Live with it. Even though you are not destroying trees or spewing heat into the atmosphere, live with it.
  16. Yeah, I know, I could just ignore it once again. But this won't abuse The Children™, make you fat or contribute to global warming, so phuock it. Fact is that you are the only person on this board, the only person in the world who knows if the place is a bargain, for monthly stays or otherwise. The OP said there are some rooms available for the holidays, and gave his opinion about that FACT. He's not the owner, not the manager, he's a guy with (useful) information and an opinion. He has absolutely no responsibility to the board, to me, to you. He's posted what he posted, he answered you what he's going to answer. Live with it. Why do you keep droning on about something unconnected with the OP and which you could find out with a single email? Why is anyone else responsible for finding out information for you? Why is anyone here responsible for determining whether it's a bargain? Over and over and over, that is? If you really want to know, go find out. We're all well educated in your point by now, such as it was once but not any more. Me, I think information is liberating and I'm thankful for what the OP did, and not at all hurt, pixxed off or vengeful about what he DIDN'T do and I can't grasp why you keep beating this long-expire equine.
  17. They are supposed to look pained. It's a turn-on for Jap gents, apparently. There are several series of these gang-bang thingmys. Welcome to the first step of Japanese porn.
  18. Any agent will get you United for about $1,200 right now, this month -- from middle North America, not the coast. $1,600 in five months is ridiculous. Shop around.
  19. BigD a fairly recent but high-level new immigration rule means you and your wife are completely separate, and each has to meet all the requirements. This is only for retirement visas. There was a discussion of it a month or so ago.
  20. Wind. Whistle.
  21. I'll do it. And I'll work for 80 per cent of the pay. The next big one is the World Cup, and I can get England at least as far as McLaren did for Euro 2008 -- but for less money. England will be a fool (again) to turn down my offer. My second choice, after me, would be to bring back Mike Bassett.

    Visa

Well, always happy to raise a smile, but you missed the point: Thailand doesn't care. If you can travel, you can travel to Thailand.

    Visa

Foreign criminals are welcome in Thailand. I don't know how else to phrase that because it's true.
  24. If you do not get a non-immigrant visa, you'll have to leave in a few months anyhow. You can't stay and stay and stay on a tourist visa. Figure a maximum stay of 90 days for planning purposes, although you can sometimes finesse that, or you might even get something shorter on rare occasions. You can make a border run, of course. Lots of info on those in the Search function. The Thai embassy does not check your criminal record when it issues you a visa in your country, or an extension in Thailand. Thailand in fact is a haven for criminals, sad to say.
  25. Yes, pretty well all visas to Thailand from the foreign ministry are valid for a year, including single-entry tourist visas. Exceptions exist, and are up to individual consuls-general. Yes, anyone who has been to the immigration department and successfully got a one-year extension will get his visa stamped for the year when he re-enters.
