  1. Yensabai condos are 40sqm or multiples thereof. They should rent at about Bt8-10k per month plus electric and water. Some want more and others may be worth more but they are right up a dark alley if you want to go back in the early hours. As for buying, I wouldn't touch them. Ask around and the answer you get will be the same. Centre condos are better but not much. Too many stories about burglaries and other happenings.
  2. The rooms with all the trimmings etc. are expensive and the chap who owns it, Dudley, is a bit of a twat. Sorry no, he is a complete twat. I concur to overbooking and the various bugs etc. I have some customers who stay there but they stay in the cheapest rooms (not sure if they even have windows ?) but they like the location. http://www.penthousehotel.com/penthouse_hotel/index.html Whats your budget and what do you want (if you know). Maybe then we can recommend some alternatives.
  3. 7-11 won't be selling any alcohol on December 5th. I doubt even the airport will. I do know a few places that will though
  4. You can get out on the following from London: Lufthansa - GBP 560 - lastminute.com Eva - GBP 474 - opodo Thai - GBP 642 - opodo Etihad - GBP 468 - majortravel.co.uk All the above 6 month tickets, going out between now and the end of November.
  5. Here you are, it is called Grottino http://www.grottino.com/ No discount rates for Bangkoktonight members any more but apparently reasonable value at Bt1,700 per night. No pool I understand.
  6. Got to agree with you on this one Soi 7. Have more than one credit card and just take reasonable precautions.
  7. Can't be arsed to look for this again but I put the address up only a couple of weeks ago so search under my name with Heaven.
  8. Why don't you just buy the FLB - its up for sale ! Or Tony's - thats up for grabs as well ! All brought to you by the team at www.thinkofanumberanddoubleitortripleit.com otherwise known as http://www.sunbeltasia.com/ Their calculations make Laurel and Hardy seem impressive.
  9. Neil, Help us out a little here. From where Length of stay Require mileage Direct / indirect Budget Preferred airline Too many variables at the moment, fill a few in and I'll see what pops up.
  10. Do you ever get out ? or just order door to door ?
  11. UK based, Hong Kong based, Citibank (Amex, Mastercard, Diners, Visa, JCB) and most other cards I use welcome most everywhere you'd expect. Bangkok Bank visa OK. Visa electron is not a credit card and as such, not subject to the 1974 Consumer Credit Act (in the UK). No guarantees I suspect and less protection. I'd use a credit card but electron should be OK for cash. I'd check the limit though as it may be lower than you think / need.
  12. Use this map to navigate then click on hotel to see it. http://map.sawadee.com/bangkok.htm
  13. Cynical, well perhaps a little given that it is your first post, not on a food orientated website, and in such depth of praise and with such full address details. Lets see whether anyone else has eaten there.
  14. And your connection with this place is what exactly ?
  15. Two hours is plenty, even if you are checking luggage. However, you can check with the first airline as they wil have their own rules. Should you be delayed, then any compensation and / being put onto the next flight will depend upon whether you were within their tolerances.
  16. This is a salient point, to choose a cheaper ticket or patronise an airline in the hope of getting some freebie. LHR-BKK mileage is about 5300 or something so each trip is 10k-11k. I think TG is still 60,000 for a free ticket so you effectively get a 16% reduction. On top of that, you will get some freebies and potential non paid for upgrades etc. One thing to watch out for though is that TG don't recognise other Star Alliance miles at the same level. Thus, they want 70-90k from the Lufthansa programme. Looking at the cash, 16% of £500 is £80 so you can work it out if you think i
  17. Correct, the chargers that come with the equipment are effectively transformers bringing the voltage up or down to the required level. The only exception is in Japan where it is 110v and the US stuff cannot get it down that far. Buy it in Japan and it will go 110-250v.
  18. I've seen a number of wheelchair bound people in Pattaya either on their own or with carers and in both motorised and non motorised wheerchairs. The paths (sidewalks) are very poor in many places but as was stated above, Beach Road has been paved so it should be possible to traverse. I second the statement from Eddy that the Thai girls go out of their way to assist anyone with any disability. I think it is in their nature and make up and they seem to enjoy making a fuss over someone. You are right that something such as going to the toilet may prove a difficult proposition in some plac
  19. Thai is shit in business class. New facilities due to be rolled out in the forthcoming couple of years. They are well, repeat well behind the times. I would choose Cathay but there is no direct flight. That would mean routing through Hong Kong. What about points ? Cathay and Thai are in seperate alliances.
  20. Debit card transactions come out of your current (checking) account. Credit card transactions are set against your credit limit. The two are not linked. What I don't see is where the Thai bank or exchange counter makes its money by advancing funds on a debit card without a fee ? Perhaps in the exchange rate ?
  21. I am under the impression that if you use the Visa network to obtain a cash withdrawl, you will be charged a cash advance fee.
  22. Boeing 747 200's fairly old equipment. Had a friend on one BKK-LGW-BKK for Bt21,000 in September and he thought OK. Stops off in the middle east on the way to London to do something...pick up fuel maybe ????? I guess that they are worth the really cheap fares they sometimes quote but they are not going to be worth the same as the big boys with in seat entertainment, mileage points etc.
  23. I'd be wary of this as the ticket price is cheap. usually that means that there are very restrictive conditions applicable such as no change of name, date, etc. Obviously the ticket is not refundable as the seller (first time seller that is) would have already gone down that route. Quite a risk without more information i think.
  24. Guys, I may have to make a trip to Phetchaburi for a day or two and will need somewhere to stay. I've hit the web but come up with next to jack shit about hotels in the area apart from the obvious ones in Hua Hin and Cha Am. What I'm looking for is an hotel in the city, perhaps towards the sea but not essential. Any comments welcome.
