  1. Bronto, I certainly wouldnt let this put me off going to Koh Chang.I was there a couple of years ago and had no problems with the mozzies. It will most likely be the dense rain forest where there is a problem not the beaches. Just take a decent spray,if you are worried, and you will be fine. Koh Chang is a beautiful, unspoilt island to visit and,if you are only visiting for a few days, I would put the odds of you contracting something bad similar to your chances of riding Britney Spears bareback ! 2. Arsenal are a great team in the Premiership.....Henrys goal against Charlton was something special but what about the goal Reyes scored to make it 4-0...brilliant ! But its strange that a team with their obvious quality cannot do it in Europe....scratching around for results against the likes of Rosenborg and PSV who would surely be strugglers in the Premiership. I think that Man Utd and Chelsea seem better equipped for the Champions League. Coming from South Manchester, maybe I'm saying that more in hope than expectation but a forward line of Ronaldo,Smith,Van Nistlerooy,Rooney and Giggs,wi
  3. Bronto, Try Koh Chang, about 3 hours drive south from Pattaya and then a short ferry ride to the island from Laem Ngob. Koh Chang is actually the second biggest island in Thailand after Phuket but very unspoilt.I spent a very enjoyable 3 days there a couple of years ago. The main resort is Whitesands where there are a few bars and restaurants but if you want quiet and seclusion try Khlong Prau a few miles away.Lovely beach and scenery, ideal for swimming and chilling out.The nearest bar/restaurant from our hotel was 10 minutes walk along the beach, albeit two years ago.You could also hire free
  4. It might be that you have 90 days to start the visa from the date of issue or it becomes invalid. ie.if say the visa was issued on 30 September you would have until the 30th December to start useing it.......valid for 60 days from the date you come to Thailand. If you are staying for 82 days then you will have to extend for a further month once the 60 days are up....no problem doing this. Almost certainly during your stay you will have to exit Thailand at least once....most likely a day trip to Cambodia if you are staying in Bangkok or Pattaya. I say this as I've got a yearly visa and I ha
  5. Stayed there last year. Its a very nice hotel with a nice setting on the river. The problem,I found, was that it was a long distance from anywhere. Not much nightlife near the hotel but if you want a quiet time then its OK for you.
  6. I stayed at the Manhattan for 3 nights in mid-July....cost was 15 quid a night including breakfast. I was not aware of any noise from construction work etc.in the room I was staying. Overall,I thought it was good value and a good location for the nightlife on Sukhumvit Road.
  7. Dave, Hope your race went well today.I used to compete regularly in the UK till an ankle injury forced me to quit.I currently do about 5 miles four times a week just to keep the beer belly at bay a little bit. I'm currently in Thailand for one year (this is week 2).I'm in Udon Thani at the moment but plan to be in Pattaya during August. Cheers. Zidane
  8. Yeah,I'd say that Soi White House would be the main place in Jomtien.Theres also a few bars as you come in to Jomtien from Pattaya before the Beach Road. Jomtien is OK if you are suffering burn out from the excesses of Pattaya ! Theres a brilliant restaurant called Bruno's just before the lights on the left as you come into Jomtien and a good Italian restaurant just after the Miss Pattaya bar on the side road to the right....both well recommended.
  9. I think the Montien is situated on 2nd Road close to the Hard Rock Cafe. I've never stayed there but the Montien group of hotels have a good reputation so you should be OK there. I think you will find Pattaya somewhat different to Krabi,Phi-Phi or Samui. The nearest equivalent to where youve stayed is Patong but Pattaya is much much larger. Beaches here cannot be compared to the islands....probably the best is at Jomtien,3 miles away or Naklua,a few minutes drive from your hotel. For a family holiday in the day you could try Pattaya water park,on the road to Jomtien,Nong Nooch village,Sri R
  10. I did look but theres only one recent review....the rest are all a year or two old from when people stayed. It looks as though its improved from 2002 but I just wondered if anyone else had stayed there in the last six months ?
  11. Two friends of mine are coming over to Pattaya at Songkran and staying at the Weekender Hotel which,I think,is located somewhere near Sabailand. (I'm sure this is just an innocent co-incidence ! ). I dont know this hotel....have any of you guys stayed there ? Good/bad experiences of this place ? I believe room rate is 800 baht per night. Thanks. Zidane
  12. If you get off the MRT underground at the City Hall stop you can venture into Raffles City. Theres the Funan Centre with six floors of electronic goods and computers or further up at Sim Lim Square theres another center with four floors of the same. You can haggle over the price,I believe,no problem.
  13. Hi Big Al, I have stayed at Klong Prao beach but not at the bungalows you mention. We stayed at the Klong Prao Beach resort hotel, which was superb, although the cost of 1800 baht may be more than you want to pay. The beach itself is gorgeous, over a mile long. The sea is clear and you can wade right out up to your neck and its good for swimming. Nightlife is very quiet.....nearest bar/restaurant to our hotel was ten minutes walk along the beach so you might wish to raid the go-go's in Pattaya beforehand for a couple of cuties to accompany you on your trip. The only resort with any real nigh
  14. accyboy, Try 00 66 followed by the mobile number.....ignore the first 0 in the mobile. eg 00 66 (mobile 071234567) would be... 00 66 71234567....hope this helps.
  15. The main 3 soapies are located on 2nd Road near to Big C shopping outlet. Sabai Dee,probably the best for good looking girls. Sabailand....some lookers, girls generally a bit older than Sabai Dee. Sabai Room.....never used this one,so cant say. Certainly the first two should meet all your requirements. I'm going to Phuket for a week in April, before coming to Pattaya for 3 weeks after.....so thanks for the info on Christines.
  16. Accomodation in Phuket and Samui is generally more expensive than Pattaya. You could try the Swiss Garden hotel in Patong (about 950 baht) but about 15 mins walk to the beach or theres one called the Siam Palm where they used to advertise "no guest charge." In Samui at Chaweng theres the Beachcomber and Chaweng Gardens both situated near the beach and nightlife but not sure about a guest charge.
  17. We've stayed at the Flipper Lodge and found it OK. Good location for the nightlife.....although a bit noisy. A couple of friends have also stayed at the Lek and said much the same so,I guess, theres little to choose between them. If your looking on the asiatravel site for the Lek the rooms do look very nice but I think youll find that they will be the 1800 baht deluxe rooms not the 750 standard. The Flipper Lodge you dont have to pay extra when you bring a TG back and I'm pretty sure its the same for the Lek....you can always try one hotel for a couple of nights and if you dont like it cha
  18. Thanks for the info, guys. Blimey,if I go it looks as though I'll have to take a minibus full of Pattaya girls with me to stop me from getting bored !! But I found this website,udonmap.com,where they are very friendly and helpful.....there seems to be quite a few beer bars, karaoke bars, massage parlours and even a go-go (Wolverines).....I suspect its a similar sort of place as Khon-Kaen. Accomodation is really cheap....3 bedroom detached bungalow 6000 baht per month within walking distance of the city centre. I'll probably give it a go for a week or two because of its proximity to the Lao bo
  19. Hi Wazza, Weather wise the best time to come to Pattaya is November to February when it should be wall to wall sunshine......March to June it gets very hot and humid and July to October is the wet season, also hot and humid ! But dont despair... I've stayed a few times at this time of year and the weather can be OK....maybe cloudy and buckets it down for an hour or so but favourable to our summer back home (excluding last year). Also, depending on the type of holiday you want, there are far less farangs than in the high season but still plenty of Thai totty about.....so LOS can be more the lan
  20. I have to agree with the theme of the mails here. A guy I work with in the UK is married to a Thai girl whose sister works at the Haven......another guy I work with said he'd seen the Haven and hotel/location looked good. So I booked for 3 weeks for later this year. However I was in Pattaya for 8 days over Christmas (staying at a different hotel) and thought I'd take the opportunity to check out the Haven. To be honest,I was disappointed.Yes,the location was good but I didnt think much of the hotel.....rooms looked a bit grubby, although I'm sure the restaurant is good and the staff seemed
  21. A mate of mine swam the length of Wong Amat a couple of years ago and lived to tell the tale ! Its better than Central Pattaya but still a bit iffy.Jomtien is better than both but still not great. If you want to go snorkelling then I'd say definitely go further afield Koh Samet or Rayong area, about an hour away. Best place is Koh Chang but its two and a half hours away plus ferry so you would have to stop over. A couple of days minimum stay but well worth it....sea is clean and crystal clear.Lovely beaches and nice scenery but not much nightlife apart from Whitesands. Recommended though..
  22. A Thai GF of mine was in the Bangkok-Pattaya hospital on Sukhumvit Road and the quality of care was excellent although a little expensive. It reminded me of BUPA hospitals in the UK. But,I agree with the comment that i'd much rather have surgery in my own country....however,if theres no alternative this is an excellent hospital but make sure you are either insured or have the means to pay.
  23. I've stayed at the Flipper Lodge in October and paid 800 baht.My mates have stayed at both the Lodge and the House and theres really nothing between them. Locations are good and you dont have to pay to bring a girl back which is a consideration as 200/300 baht per night all adds up over a week or two. But in May you should have no problem turning up and getting accomodation at a discount rate.
  24. If you read the wording for the fares at the back of the baht bus the fare is only 5 baht. Generally,I think most people will pay 10 baht for anywhere on the 2nd road-Beach road route and ring the buzzer when you want to get off. It is also possible to start your journey in Jomtien and go into Pattaya adding to this route for 10 baht. However going back into Jomtien from Pattaya you would have to negotiate a fare beforehand (60-80 baht) or go to the Jomtien tuk tuk stand on 2nd road opposite Pattaya Shoes shop near the lights (price 30 baht,I think)......dont worry about the cheap charlie
  25. Have any of you guys been to Udon Thani in Isaan in the North East of Thailand ? I believe its quite a big city and developed during the Vietnam war when a lot of Americans came for R & R or should I say S & S ! Apparently a lot of Americans live there now.... I've got a chance of going there for a month or two in the second half of this year.I've been looking on the net and you can rent a 3 bedroom bungalow for as little as £90 per month. But dont wanna go if I'll be bored....anyone got any info/advice on bars/a go-go's/women in general/food etc Thanks. Zidane
