I can make any date between Nov 21-27. And sorry about posting the thread in the members section, but I figured it was too early to start talking about a Nov outing and figured that I'd catch more "eyeballs" in the members section. Shilo

Here is a link to their website: http://www.sunshinevista.com/accom.htm . As for booking the room, I'm letting OJ and Ling take the lead on that front 8) For Christ sake... will April never come ::) Shilo

The Northwest FF Miles Game: They have 3 levels: Silver at 25,000 miles (reward 1.5 miles) Gold at 50,000 miles (reward 2.0 miles) Plat at 75,000 miles (reward 2.25 miles) Only the flown miles count towards the Elite Status but a round trip to LOS from my home is just under 19,000 miles so it adds up quick. I make about 3-4 trips per year. I book through Angel Travel and it cost about $760 in the offseason and $1025 during peak. The miles you rack up this year determine your E-status for all of the next year... So here is the math for this year (2004) 2 trips at $760 and 2 trips at $1025 = $3570 19000 miles x 4 trips x 2.25 per mile = 171,000 miles add another 12-16K per yr on with credit card use and I'm above 180K for the year. And 60K will get you a free trip. Shilo

I might as well jump in here with what I have been doing around ff miles 8) I only fly with Northwest and after 4 trips last year they now have me listed as Platinum Elite [smiley=angel.gif] This means that I get to board the plane first, get First Class upgrades on the domestic legs of the trips, have a "special" phone number to service reps, and other perks that I haven't gotten around to using yet. But the biggy is 2 1/4 bonus miles for every mile I fly. Which means that I earn 3/4 of a free trip for every trip I pay for [smiley=grins-jump.gif] I also have a credit card that earns miles and everything goes on that card... EVERYTHING: food, gas, phone bill, electric bill, cable...everything. Somehow it doesn't hurt as much when I fill the auto tank and know that I just got 15 miles closer to LOS when I pay the tab But I don't use the miles and don't plan to for a very very long time. So far I have 180K miles in the bank, good enough for 3 free trips. By the end of this year it'll be up to about 300K (or 5 trips) and in the years to come... who knows. I know that I take a risk, the number of miles needed for a trip might go up, the airline might go under, or who knows what. But I don't spend a lot of time trying to plan for the unknown. What I do know is that I plan to retire in LOS in 59 months, one week, and about 3days. On a healthy but never-the less fixed income. And I am pretty sure that airfares are going to rise again at some point. Either because of more flyers or fews airlines... something has to give. Just like the good old 401K (which I'm pround to say was up a whopping 40.1% last year with a 75/25 stock/bond mix) I'm banking away those miles for the future [smiley=1luvu.gif] Shilo

Angel Travel http://www.angeltravel.com/ can still get you there for $760 if Ann has seats... http://angeltravel.com/Airfare/Northwest%2...Zone_n_Fare.htm But I checked NWA this evening for a short trip over in mid-feb and it quoted $1900 Shilo

Give a big hand to PM Thaksin Shinawatra
Shilo replied to mattelyo's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
The man in the street goes to work, saves a little (lent out on the overnight market), at little or no interest buys a house (funded retail then wholesale then securitised and traded), actually, leveraged retail before being bundled with others to be securitised and trade... until called in on a refi to be done all over again at half the interest rate. invests in a pension (largely collective equity investment, traded, placed with custodians and re-lent to the market) here in the US "pensions" are generally nothing more than promises from the employer and are often debt instruments to said employer "read underfunded". It's the 401K's that are "collective equity investments" too often in just the company stock, "traded" in options, placed with brokers to be relent to "market shorters" that hurt the employee's total return. and then purchases an annuity (aggregated through actuarial tables). an annuity with unjustified frontend sales charges, to often poor performance, and holding backend charges that makes the contract seem more like a prison sentence... bigdan, I just bring what ever link I want to post up in a fresh browser, highlight it in the address field, put my cursor in the field, right click and select "cut". It's now in memory and you can right click again in your message and select "paste"... Works everytime. Shilo

andrew, Welcome to the board. "Walk" on over to the members side of the board and ask any questions that you like. There are a few of us who have made it into a bar or three and from time to time we even "sound" like we know what we're talking about when answering questions 8) Again...welcome, Shilo

Chris, No problem, Here in the US it's a little different. There are several teams that I like and several that I don't. But if there was going to be a baseball, football, or basketball game being played in Bangkok while I was in town, I'd go just for the fun of watching the sport whether I liked the US team or not. Different strokes for different folks 8) Shilo

[glow=red,2,300]This is a fantastic opportunity for us to see the greatest fotball team in the world !!!![/glow] Personally I thought that the Thai team did well in the World thingy you were all talking about last year but I'm not so sure that I'd call them "the greatest fotball team in the world!!!" but then what do I know. Hell, if they sell beer in the ball park then get two tickets for me too. I'll need an extra one for my lady friend in case I get bored waiting for someone...anyone to score a point or GOD FORBID two ;D Shilo

Ahh, gee, shucks 8) By the way Chris, for a man like myself who enjoys a good smoke, the picture under your name gives me nightmares [smiley=yikes.gif] Shilo

Send an email to Pete. There are reasons for not allowing people to use the hotmail or yahoo options. It will help if you have been to the FLB in person in the past or if you know someone on the board that can speak for you. Shilo

Crap, now you've done it ::) Isn't it enough that Pete has 30 pretty ladies telling him that he's a very hansom man all day every day ??? True, it's a great site, my favorite site. But let's face it, if he ever fired the girls and just sold beer this would be a very lonely hole in cyberspace ;D Love ya Pete, Shilo

Same subject, different question... Is there a way to tell how much space a member use used in his album and or how much space is left? Shilo

Have fun Many of the guys who are on THIS BOARD may be at the FLB on most Sunday nights around 8pm. For drinks, pizza, and pretty ladies... Once again, enjoy yourself 8) Shilo

I agree with the others that it is best to pick an airline and stick with it so the ff miles add up. I use NWA and have their Visa card. ALL of my spending goes on the card: food, gas, dinners out, hell I even pay my phone and cable bills on it. And then pay off the balance at the end of each month so I don't get hit with the interest. I also plan on making 4 trips to LOS each year. After 2 trips you go into Silver Elite where you get 1.5 miles for each mile, after the third trip your upgraded to Gold (2 miles per mile) and after 4 trips your into Platinum (2.25 miles per mile). It all adds up pretty quick. I'm not using any of the miles at the moment because I want to bank as many as possible before the air fares go back up, and trust me, at some point they will. I figure at this rate I should have about 250K miles by the end of next year. It takes 60K to get a free trip... Shilo

On my last trip I made it through in under 20 minutes but then again, it was my 3rd trip and I've learned a few tricks along the way. I always book a seat at the front of the coach cabin so I'm one of the first off the plane, at immigrations I always walk to the middle lines which are shorter, and I pack light taking only a small backpack and a carry-on suitcase so I don't have to wait for my baggage. Oh, and I always have a few thousand baht from the last trip so I have cash for my transport and first night entertainment 8) Shilo
