Every night there are 2 return flights from LHR to Bangkok , 1 Qantas & 1 BA , leaving & returning within 30 minutes of each other . BA & Quantas codeshare so even though you book a BA flight you could be on a Quantas plane & vice versa , depending what flight times you select . I have got a good price for the flight (£463 ) using the Qantas flight code , using the BA code the price is £950 ! The flight is on the BA plane . But from what I read on the BA Executive Club website , I cannot use their online check-in facility because my booking was made using a Qantas code . One o

I'm planning a May trip this year but I'm not worried if there are a lot of Navy there as I know Pattaya well enough to go to the places they don't go . It's not that I don't like the guys , it's just that generally the lookers [smiley=tits.gif] have already been bf'd by them , leaving me with the [smiley=tongue.gif] . Anyway , if/when the war with Iraq starts exercises like CG will probably be cancelled as the Navy will be doing the real thing [smiley=AR15firing.gif] . Derek

Hi Tom , Thanks for the advice . With the offer I've got now on the BA flight I'll probably be travelling with them instead of emirates . It looks like we'll probably be in Pattaya at the same time so I'll have to meet up with you & buy you a beer for all the helpful advice you've given me so far . I'll keep in touch & we can arrange a meeting somewhere . Cheers , Derek

I had more or less decided to fly with Emirates but yesterday I got a good price with BA/Quantas Belfast - LHR - BKK direct , thus eliminating the risk of having to fly via Dubai if war breaks out . It is also £75 cheaper , better flight times & a shorter travelling time than Emirates ! I can get either the BA or the Quantas flight or a mixture of the 2 ( eg BA out , Quantas return ) for the same price . The Quantas flight leaves LHR 5 mins before BA & leaves BKK 45 minutes after BA so the timings are similiar . Question is which should I choose , based on airline quality , servic

I have the same problem . Derek

I was considering travelling with Emirates this May but will Dubai be safe enough if/when war breaks out as it's fairly close to Iraq . I'm worried that my flight may be cancelled meaning I might lose my money as most travel insurances don't cover acts of war . Did anyone travel via Dubai during the last Gulf war ? Derek

Not sure if you can change it . If you have travel insurance you may be able to claim the price of your ticket off it . If that isn't possible another alternative would be to sell the ticket to someone else , provided you can change the name on the ticket at a reasonable cost . I would ring Dial-a-flight's customer services & find out what they can do , ie change flight dates or name on ticket . Derek

Thanks guys . If I do book on their website it will give me 26188 miles , enough to qualify for silver membership & a free upgrade next time . I will probably be going back again near the end of the year & if I like the flight I will use them again . Their price seems to be consistent year round at £500 - £550 unlike other good airlines whose prices vary greatly but not usually much cheaper than £500 . And as CT points out , one of their partners is BA who I might try sometime if I can get a good price . Rayban - why do you always use Emirates ? Is it because they are good , are ch

Can anyone tell me the flight distance from UK to Bangkok via Dubai or know where I can find it ? My reason for asking is that Emirates are offering double airmiles if you book online but unfortunately they are more expensive to book with as I have to book my connecting flight Belfast to Birmingham separately . Is it worth the extra £40 for the double airmiles ? Maybe this is one for our airline expert Cheshire Tom ? Cheers , Derek

There was a post here a long time ago from somebody who tried the Champagne service and he said that you pick 1 girl from the 2 when you get to the hotel & she stays with you all night . There was no hanky panky in the limo other than kisses & cuddles . In his opinion a waste of money . Derek

I've found that biographys make good holiday reading & give a good insight into people & what made them the way they are . Last trip I read Roy Keane's bio & the previous trip I read Sir Alex Fergusons ( bit of a Reds fan :) ) , both good reads . Somebody mentioned Sven Hassel's books . I used to read them when I was at school & I had the full collection . Recently I decided to read them again & went to get one out of our massive bookcase . I discovered that after leaving them sitting on the shelf for 15 years my Dad had decided the previous week to make room for new b

I'll go if you pay for my airfare ;D . On second thoughts though it could be dangerous for me being that close to Joy considering what she currently thinks of me ;D ;D . LOL Derek

I stayed in the Haven hotel in Jan 03 & I loved it . I put up a review on this site but it disappeared . All the construction work in that area seems to be completed . A new hotel next to the Haven was just getting its finishing touches but was open for business & looked nice from the outside . You could always book the haven & if you don't like it you can move as there are many hotels nearby . I stayed for 5 nights at the Haven , went on a visit to Udon Thani and on my return I decided to try the Areca Lodge on soi Diana . I wish I'd went back to the Haven . It was cheaper ,

Baz- Did you do your search from Belfast or LHR ? I've just did the search on Ebookers for your dates from Belfast & still come up with the same price . My dates are 3rd-18th May . Woody - I know on paper Eva seats should be bigger but they felt more cramped , especially in elbow room . Previously I've flown with Finnair ( 33" seat ) & Lufthansa ( 31" seat ) to Bangkok and both seats were far superior with more leg & elbow room . On them you were able to get past the person on the outside seat without them having to move . On the Eva flight the lightly built woman sitting besid

Can anyone provide me with contact details for West East travel ? As regards Eva Air . I flew with them recently LHR-BKK return economy class & I would be reluctant to fly with them again . The seats were very cramped & the food was rubbish . I couldn't believe it when they brought around pot noodles as our mid-flight meal . The only good thing was that they showed 4 good movies each way , 3 in english & 1 oriental subtitled one . If you fly evergreen class is will cure the seating problem but you still have the bad food . Also the return leg doesn't get into LHR until 7 pm , m

Anyone currently looking for a room , the Haven Hotel has vacancies . I was able to get a poolside room on the ground floor . The rooms are good with in-room safe-box & vcd player , plus the room maid doesn't call until the afternoon ! The hotel food is also very good & have a good selection of both Thai & western food . If you want a good live rock/blues band & no hassle from the girls try the blues factory on soi Happy . Also a good place to take your TG . Derek

Can anyone advise where I can get cheap games for a GBA ( Game Boy Advance ) in Thailand , Pattaya or Bangkok ? I'm also interested in buying a portable dvd player with built-in screen & rechargable battery pack . Has anyone seen these for sale in Thailand & at what price ? A workmate just bought one & they are brilliant . He paid £250 sterling for it but I reckon they should be cheaper in LOS . Cheers , Derek

'putting a One2call followed by a Dprompt SIM' What do you mean by this ? Are these Thai networks & do I have to buy sim cards for them ? As I said , my knowledge of mobiles isn't great . Cheers , Derek

That's something I'd like to know too . How can I be sure that a mobile I buy in Pattaya will work here in the UK with an Orange sim card , for example ? ( I know very little about mobiles ) Derek

TFC- I've read your review but I've 1 question . Is there a cd/vcd/dvd player in the room or even a vcr ? ( I like a bit of music while I 'work' ) ;D Cheers , Derek

Cheers guys . Gerald - 6 weeks for me .

It there a cash machine at Bangkok Airport that takes visa / cirrus / maestro cards ? If so where is it located ? I need some money as soon as I get to LOS but I'm getting robbed by the banks here if I get my cash from them . They are giving me a rate of 62 baht / £ but I will get a rate of 68 baht / £ from a Thai cash m/c . Cheers , Derek

TFC - Is the construction noisy - does it wake you up at 7 am ? I'm booked into the Haven Hotel on soi 13 in January . Is the construction work still going on on soi 13 ? If it's too noisy there I might move to the Areca as the 990 baht rate sounds like a good deal . One other thing - is the Areca guest friendly ? Cheers , Derek
