  1. Nana is a shit hole. Stayed there one night and ran for my life. Great fun to hang around but the rooms are disgusting IMHO. Sailfast
  2. I must second the Grand Business Inn! Very nice hotel, 1200 baht, no joiner fee! Also the food is very good. Sailfast
  3. Inexpensive? With no guest fee? 120 US per night seems a bit on the expensive side for LOS. But, then again I have never been to Phuket. Sailfast
  4. I would head straight to Pattaya. Stay a couple of days in BKK at the end of your trip. I started out in BKK first on my first trip. I had a great time, but, Pattaya is more "user friendly" than BKK. Hindsight is 20/20. BKK is very safe but it takes a couple of days to convince yourself. Street-smarts will kick in and you may find yourself a bit intimidated by the city. We spent a whole day trying to figure out where to go, what to do, etc. A few days in Pattaya will allow yourself to be eased into the culture. It will also through you head first into the party. Stay at the Residence Garden and ask the security gaurd how to get to Walking Street. It's all down hill from there. Remember to go with the flow and smile. Sailfast
  5. Just paid $903.00 US for Thai air - JFK to BKK - direct in November.
  6. Better Brush up on your Mandarin and Spanish. English is on the way out... Want to make BIG bucks in NY City? Read, Write, Speak Mandarin/Spanish/English. You are correct, as long as US economy stays strong English will be the language of business and travel but by 2050 that may change. As the Chinese economy grows, there are 844 million Mandarin speakers who might decide that they will do business in their language of choice. Since Spanish is the #2 language for business, many Chinese are now learning Spanish. The 344 million English speakers might have to learn something new to stay competative in business. #1 Mandarin #2 Spanish #3 Arabic #4 English Just for the record, when I'm in the UK (or any other country), I regard myself as a guest in that country and act accordingly. For example: The British entertainment "media" has a field day with the USA and generaly makes things up as they go along. My favorite was a "news" story in May on the newest rage here in America...it's called "anal bleaching". We are all getting in line to have our buts bleached... I guess. They even showed the procedure! I got grilled on why us Yanks are so engrossed in cosmetic surgery and law suits. They didn't even notice the ad on the tely for the law offices of so and so who would file your claim for you. It's all about perception I guess. Bottom line is that I didn't say what I thought.(ie: YOU are the ones watching the tv showing graphic cosmetic operations, not me, oh, and did you notice the add for the legal firm or dewey, fuckem, and how?) I just smiled, shook my head and said yea us Yanks are kinda wierd. My favorite is when the bartender says "oh your a Yank, I guess you will be having a Bud". After I correct him and get my pint the conversation now turns to the low quality of American beer. Here I have to be nice and explain that they have probably never even heard of 99.999999% of the beer brewed in the US. After the 100th time in a week this happens to me I am still polite and all smiley because I am a guest. If a bartender in the US said "hey, you look like you have no taste...have one of these", I would be out the door. Sailfast
  7. I've been trying to call Thai air...what a joke. There ain't no way anyone will ever pick up the phone! Sorry if I have hijacked this thread. If I post again, I will start another topic. Sailfast
  8. I just booked an paid for my November trip. JFK to BKK direct sitting in economy class. Does this mean I won't be getting any miles???????? I booked on the Thai website, I guess I'm gonna try and call them now for clarification. Thanks, Sailfast
  9. I hope you are able to extend paypal donations. My Paypal account was empty so I transfered money into the account, but, it takes 3 business days or so for it to go through. There may be other board members who want to contribute but have not yet been able to. Thanks, Sailfast
  10. We have an early flight out of JFK to Pattaya soon This will be my first ever flight out of JFK. The prices I have seen on the net for parking are steep. Can anyone suggest a hotel that offers extended parking and a reasonable price? Thanks in advance, Sailfast
  11. Rakit, My original flight to the UK is with Continental. I called them...3500 U.S. to turn my round trip ticket to the UK into a multi-leg ticket US - BKK - London - US. This is ON TOP of the 500 I paid for my ticket to the U.K. Oh, and to include passage London to Manchester...lol... it was CRAZY. They acted like I wanted to book a hot air balloon to the south pole. I know you can fly that route from 60 pounds or so. The travel industry will be in constant trouble until they start selling tickets at the same price, all the time. Ever go on a cruise or a flight thinking you got a great deal, then you talk to somebody else Thanks for you reply, Sailfast
  12. blkm4farangf, I think it's more that we know what your getting yourself into with white women After Asian women, black women are next on my list. White chicks are down near the bottom. Where I live I see handsome black guys with FAT white chicks all the time. I just can't figure it out. To each his own. This is just my experience in sex and relationships. I judge people on how they are as a person not on race, religion etc. Best of luck in your search. Sailfast
  13. Thanks for the replies. I don't plan on checking baggage. I plan letting the airline know I wouldn't be getting on the next flight. Sailfast
  14. My question is, can you just get off a plane during a scheduled change and not get on the next flight. Also, can you use only the second half of a round trip ticket? This is very confusing. My friends are planning a trip to BKK April 8 - April 19 This flight changes planes in the UK. I have a round trip ticket booked to the UK April 20 - May 2 Can I buy this round trip ticket to BKK (via UK) and not use the final leg back to the US. Then use the second half of my round trip ticket (US - UK) to get back home? Would I have broken any airline rules or regulations? Or worse, are there laws against this now? I have also tried to book one way tickets and/or change my flight to multi-leg but the cost is insane! Thanks, Sailfast
  15. Funny how the grass is always greener over the septic tank. Good luck in your search. Sailfast
  16. I have stayed at the Asia Bangkok Hotel and the Royal Benja Hotel. Both are OK, but I'm tired of paying the silly guest fee. Can anyone suggest a nice hotel in a good location that does not charge a joiner fee. Less than 2000 bht/ night would be nice. Sailfast
